Negative Core Beliefs: Part II

10 years ago 0 6252 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have a question.

Do you understand core beliefs and how they work in reality? I know it is foreign but should not be skipped over since they play such a big part in who we are and how we think and act. How do you change thought patterns if you don't understand them? Or for that matter even know they are there.
You can't fix something if you don't know why it is broke. You can only patch it and that is not good enough.

Don't believe everything you see. It has to go through memory too and you can end up seeing what memory wants you to. Same with thoughts. Ten people at an accident will all see it different depending on their past experiences.  None may be reliable witnesses. Yet one or more may get it perfect.

I remember being called to witness what a supposed criminal (he was) looked like. The other witness swore he had tattoo's. I never saw any. I couldn't pick him out of the poor pictures. I didn't guess, I might have picked out a cop. I think the other witness just assumed all criminals have tattoo's. Maybe he did, but I never saw any.

He was selling stolen lumber with the help of a loader man who would put an extra lift on his truck that wasn't counted. He had to get rid of it before his delivery point.

You mean like the saying "Don't believe what you think"?

One of those sayings blamed on some poor old granny is "never assume anything".  You could be wrong. If you can't prove it then don't use it.

Hi Vincenza,
It happened this evening.  I wasn't able to explain some notes to myself, in pencil about my savings, and starting have self-doubts about my money management.  I could always do better, but was feeling overwhelmed tonight, especially since I'd had an unproductive day, fueled by a headache, as well as mom not being too well either.

I decided I'd try to call the bank, since they can help 24/7, and while on hold, I found the documents which clarified my self-doubts.

It's hard to get all the stuff done that's on my plate, so I end up nibbling at a lot of things.

As I go to bed, I'll do my core belief affirmations, by typing them into a list of my more positive and "new" core beliefs.  My theory is that I will absorb the thoughts somehow, since it's late at night, and eventually change my negative into more positive core beliefs.

Before you can start to challenge your negative core beliefs, it’s important to understand the relationship between negative core beliefs, assumptions and negative thoughts.
One way to think about it is to distinguish that negative thoughts & assumptions are often the symptom or result of negative core beliefs.
Because all three work together, it can be hard to tell them apart but the following rules generally apply…
•       Negative core beliefs often stem from early loss of failures experienced at school, work or personal relationships
•       Assumptions are often the motivation for negative thoughts. Ex: If I say something I will be judged. The assumption is judgment. Assumptions often take the form of “if” and “then”.
•       Negative thoughts tend to dominate the individual’ thoughts. Ex: Nobody cares about me, I should be happy…

Have you ever experienced a negative thought connected to a core belief?
