Add me to the list. It's been a week and you, and this site, are a blessing. Every time I thought I was losing my grip, I could log on and find out things were OK - that these experiences were common withdrawal symptoms or cravings, and they too would pass. And the encouragement and support on these pages is amazing. Thank you!!

Hi Whynot,
For some reason, I thought my quit would be smooth sailing after the first week. Hah! I struggled with depression this weekend, too. And I am already on medication - so you are amazing to be hanging in there!
Are licensed therapists allowed to recommend prescriptions in Canada? i.e. can they call your physician and request that a med be prescribed? If so, maybe you wouldnt have to wait another 4+ months if you can see a counselor before that.
Keep posting, we need you.

The last quit wasn't MY quit. I quit at my now ex-husband's :)insistence, although he continued to smoke. I gained weight, lost concentration, and was severely depressed every day until I started smoking again 100 days later. It was such a horrible experience that I was terrified of ever trying again.
This time, I know to my core that it's right for me. Each grateful day without smoking is a blessing - and I can see the progress on my Quit Meter. Depression? fleeting, so temporary. And the weight gain? Couldn't be happening at a better time. Spring is on the way. By the time my metabolism stabilizes, it will also be time for yard work, gardening, hikes with the dog, house painting, hardscaping... physical activity and a time of the year when I naturally eat lighter and drink LOTS of water. My body will find the right weight. And I've got better things to do now than obsess about cigarettes or my weight.
(If I can stop sleeping - LOL)
Things happen exactly when they're supposed to.

Hi Changing,
You're not alone! I slept for more than 12 hours last night and crawled in to work two hours late today. I'm at work, but definitely not all here today. I'm trying to enjoy the light-headedness, and not beat myself up. I've been taking 1/2 the recommended dosage of Chantix and wonder if I should start to taper off altogether - because of the excessive sleepiness. (Has anyone gone off the Chantix yet and noticed a change in their sleeping or alertness?)
Thanks for posting doubts and vents, too. When we speak out about the hobgoblins and nicodemons of our quit, I think it minimizes their effects on us.
Grateful and smoke-free,
Mary

Thanks, Changing. It's comforting to know that someone else is going through this. I could sleep 14 hours - and have once or twice. I never had trouble falling asleep at bedtime, but I used to sleep 7-8 hours max. Now I can lay down for a nap on a weekend and wake up the next day! I could curl up right now if my office chair had arms :) Maybe it's related to the crazy dreams I've been getting since I started the Chantix? Or the effect of smoking cessation on my blood pressure? Or... maybe oxygen shock :)
Thanks for letting us know it IS temporary, Phil!
Happy to be smoke-free,
Mary
