Welcome Tsikos. You have come to the right place. I too, smoked 30 cigarettes a day and this site and these wonderful people really helped me. All the coping tools on the left here really work, check them out. You can do this for your daughter! Good luck to you Tsikos, and keep posting! The Junkie Strikes!!!!!

...and I keep tuning that voice out. The one that rationalizes the reasons for smoking. How much better you'll feel, how calm you'll be, oh...and just think, you'll be able to take off those extra pounds much easier. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I will NOT listen! I'll make it through this. There's no way smoking can be glamourized in my eyes, not when my sister's husband died at 50 years old from lung cancer. And yes, he was a heavy smoker! Time for a good round of deep breathing and a bottle of ice water. Thanks for letting me vent. One more question - Cravings and the Patch

The elusive after dinner smoke. It's a tough one to shake. I sure felt the effects of it tonight! I'm on the 21mg patch as well, Windy, and I smoked 30 cigs a day. I don't seem to have any physical cravings, for me they are all psychological. I used to love my after dinner cig outside on the swing. Now, I eat my dinner, get up from the table right away and either come online to post or walk the dogs. I do both before the evening is through, and then I feel better. I really try hard not to think about that smoke. It gets easier with practice. Keep strong and keep posting, Windy. Total sadness

You know what, Sparky. I think you CAN do this. I have been where you are many times, and I think you're right, withdrawal isn't as bad as the hell you are putting yourself through. So come on, Sparky, pick a date, and come back and join us. It might be easier than you think!!! God Bless you Sparky, Jan

The Junkie Strikes!!!!!

I have been posting for about 20 minutes. I came here because I was really feeling miserable and cranky. After spending time reading the posts and just being here, I feel better! I actually do! I tell ya, I absolutely love this place. Ah well...time to walk the beagles now. Cheers, Jan

Redefining fun

Hope, I'll be blunt. When you first quit smoking, life is boring. No matter what, it just is. You can distract yourself, and you should. But I think more importantly than that is knowing that this sense of boredom is a very TEMPORARY thing and eventually life does return to normal. It sneaks up on you quickly when suddenly you realize, "I had a good day. A really good day". It does happen, just keep believing that and you'll be OK. Cheers, Jan
