Hang in there Duckie, I remember only too well how you feel. Lots of water will help a bit. Just remember that what you are going through now is the worst of it. It only gets better from here!

RJ, do whatever it takes to stay away from the cigarettes. Don't worry too much about the weight gain. Weight gained quickly from the quit comes off pretty quickly. I gained over 15 pounds at the beginning of my quit. It actually came off rather quickly, but I didn't focus on dieting until I was absolutely rock solid in my quit. I now weight less than I did when I quit.
I stuffed raw baby carrots in my mouth constantly for the first couple of months of my quit. So much that I actually started to get a bit of an orange color to my skin! LOL It's not a dangerous thing, just too much beta carotene for the body to handle. I chewed straws and ate sugarfree candies too.

:::waves hello to everyone:::
Yup, I haven't been around much either. Probably because there are many days now when I forget that I was a smoker. I'm off for a relaxing weekend of camping. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Julie, I think there was something in the air this weekend. I nearly blew a 300 day quit. Had craves as bad as a hell week. There is just no room for complacency with this addiction. Glad we both made it through.

I didn't, but it was the worse craves I've had since hell week. As I cruise up to a 10 month quit...and can nearly see my 1 year anniversary ahead of me, I felt pretty confident in my quit. Enough so that smokers around me was no longer troubling. Well, that theory was blown out of the water this weekend.
I was around a lot of smokers (couldn't be helped) of which a number of them smoked clove cigarettes. I used to smoke cloves cigs and hate the smell of "regular" cigs. I very nearly asked several cloves smokers if I could bum a cig. Since none of these people knew me, the chances of them giving me one was pretty good. That scared the hell out of me. My friends and family found me crying in a corner and shaking like a leaf. Good support system that they are, they immediately administered lots of chocolate as a reward for not smoking.
If truth be told, I felt guilty about the chocolate. I felt like I certainly didn't deserve a reward for nearly screwing up. Yes, I know I didn't, but I felt miserable about coming so close to smoking.
I think it was the second hand smoke. I know I got a couple of snoot fulls of smoke over the course of the weekend, and I think that little bit of nicotine started up the dopamine craves. A second hand wiff or two has never quite effected me like that before. What few cravings I have are far and few between...and only last all of about 20 seconds...if that. This was quite different.
Don't become complacent in your quit...ever. For the rest of my life I will always be a puff away from a pack a day. Kiss my big fat butt Nic!! I'm onto you and your incideous ways.
