Transitioning back to work, Part I

Due to a nervous breakdown 7 months ago I had sick leave first and then took a license from my job not working at the present moment. I am still recovering and definitely I am not ready yet for a return to work. One of the good things that I did with my license was to go back to school and I am taking a master degree. As the school was 3 hours from my city I had to commute every week and I travel by train which I found so relaxing.

One of the worst things that I did was to push me too hard and demand more life from without being prepared for received it. Now, and as Ashley suggested, I made my treatment a priority and started doing things slowly, each day at a time (even thought this is not always easy to carry, I confess).

CBT - Putting all together

Hello all. I have been practicing CBT for some weeks and I found very useful tips on this program as well as on this forum. The main question is how to get organized so one do not get overwhelmed with so many activities.

Session 2 Walkthrough

During past week I have been doing session 3 workbook. What I found most helpful was to discover some relationships among my emotions, my feelings and my behaviors.

Some of my anxious thoughts were related with the excessive worry of needing to rest to get better, the fact that I am experiencing sleeping problems and could not sleep properly, bought a new mattress and thought that I did not buy the best product.

The evidence that support this thoughts is mostly my lack of sleep and against is that before my breakdown I did not sleep properly also and had to have a quick nap to recover some energy. This is because I had a depression not treated at least for 7 years now.

The types of anxious thinking that I recognize are "fear googles" and all-or-none thinking.

Another bad night...but

Hello Bren. I use journaling also for helping me with my anxiety and depression. I am just curious. You said you have a diary online. Right now, and besides posting on this forum, I am writing directly on word but keeping this words just for me.

What service do you use for your journal on the net?

Transitioning back to work, Part II

Great advice Josie. I certainly see myself on point number 2: Learn your limits. Right now I am not working but I am studying and I have to execute a big project for the course. It is an huge task and sometimes I feel overwhelmed with so much thing to do. With this in mind I put a great effort in the work and feel very tired after several hours of working on this project. This tiredness gives me headaches and my anxiety and depression levels sky rocket. I have to learn to work not so intensely and to find a schedule that works for me so this situation do not happen.

Improving Time Management Skills

Time management is a big challenge for me. Not practicing time management techniques can be very frustrating because I can not have nothing done. On the other hand sometimes I tried to find the "perfect" time management technique and always ended frustrated because I felt overwhelmed with so many techniques.
What is working for me is simplicity. I have a diary where I have a to do list for important things to be done. I try to not write unimportant tasks because they are not important and I do them when I remember.

When I have a project I break it in small steps.

As ~m wrote I tried in the past to break time in slots (5 or 10 min.) and tried to accomplish something in this period. I  felt that I was more productive but i do not know why I stopped with this. Now I will give another try to this method. Good habits require persistence.

What Do You Need?

One of the things that distract me is journaling. I also take pictures and insert them in my journals.

But now I need to find a hobby with the fun factor which is what I miss most. My wife told me that she would like to dance. Maybe an option is to have dance classes with my wife.

Overcoming stress today!

Berating techniques are very useful and are learned in yoga classes, which I found very helpful for my anxiety.
