Coping Strategies for a Stress Plan

Hi ~m:
I am sorry you are having a hard time of it ..I agree there is not a lot of  group support in the depression center but I do like the written information there in the sessions toolbox on core beliefs..There is very little information here in the panic center on core beliefs..so I read the info there on cord beliefs and apply it to the my anxiety and panic work I do here..so I still come here for group support and work the program here.
You mentioned that you were not getting any support from the group in the Alcohol Help Center..Have you tried or considered going to AA meeting? Alcoholics Anonymous has meeting most every day and night..Is this something you might consider doing? This may be a place where you can get the support you need that you are not getting from the Alcohol Help Center sister site here..
AA helped me get sober and quit using alcohol..They have helped others that are very close to me also. Everyone is very friendly there and more than willing to lend a listening ear..They are all recovering alcoholics so they know where you are coming from..They have a 12 step program that has a proven track record of helping people stay sober...I have not had a drink in over 5 years now because of their help..The panic program here has been the missing puzzle for me in my journey to recovery and so has all the information I have gotten out of the depression center..They have all helped me to be whole again.

I hope this information helps you in some way. It is not something I find easy to talk about..

really struggling.....

Good morning Ruadhan:  Welcome to the program and support group..I am glad you have decided to join us here..Work on the program at your own pace and take it slowly..You will begin to see improvements before you know it..There have been times when I didn't even know I was getting better and then I realized I was doing things with ease that I had never been able to do before...Take your time with it and be gentle with yourself like Sunny said and it will all come together for you..

Drop in and say hello

Thanks Sunny!!
I got all the shopping done yesterday for the birthday dinner and am looking forward to cooking it.
Today I am waiting for a phone call today from my Dr. office so that I can pick up a written Rx for my new BP meds to mail into my meds by mail program. By the way the new meds are working great and it was so much easier shopping now that my blood pressure is down..I am actually feeling a lot better..
Anyway enough about me How is your gardening going now that the weather is better and you have been able to get outside and play in the dirt again? lol. I bet you are enjoying the sunshine!!! thats for sure...Well I'll talk to later have a nice weekend!

Coping Strategies for a Stress Plan

Hi ~m,

I hope you are feeling a little better today..You mentioned in your post that you have posted here and gotten responses. May be you have answered you own question?  What I am trying to say is that I had a lot of emotions and anxiety to deal with when I quit drinking, that I hadn't dealt with before because I was self medicating. I think that the panic program here would have helped me a lot..I know it is now and I think it can help you too..Please consider posting here and see if it helps..You can read the sessions on the other sites that are helpful to you too and still come here and post..Thats what I have been doing..

Drop in and say hello

Good morning everyone,

This sun is shining here today and the weather is beautiful..

I also have notice there are less people here on the weekends..I think we all need a little rest on the weekends whether we have to go to work during the week or are retired, life can be very stressful..

So I have decided to try something new and give myself a rest from the forum and the everyday stresses of life on the weekends..

Having a beautiful weekend everybody...

Drop in and say hello

Hi ~m

I am glad that I could help you..AA is a wonderful organization and there are many people there that can help you get on the road to recovery...Once you get yourself to your first meeting you will know why I chose AA and will be supported by people who understand what you are going through..
As for my plans for the weekend..
I was a little sick last night night so I am going to rest up today..Saturday I am looking forward to cooking my partner a special dinner for his birthday and Sunday I am going to spend the day letting my mind and body relax..Self care is something I need to do a lot more of...

Self Care

I came across this on the main forum page again today under: Would you like to know how to better support fellow members.. There was topic there titled Self Care.  I thought I would post what it said here.

Although helping others has benefits for the helper and helped, it can be taken to the extreme.  It is possible to become too invested and then fell overwhelmed or stressed due to another member's problems. If you ever feel that you are becoming too invested in another member's problems you need to take time for yourself.

Do activities you enjoy
Practice relaxation exercises
Exercise
Read

Remember, although we all care for each other in the support group is does not help anyone to worry about another's problems. To be blunt but realistic, it is not your problem.  You need to take of yourself before you can take care of others.

Doing Self care is a problem I have been struggling with for most of my life and something I have been trying to work on.
I don't know if anyone else here struggles with Self Care but I though I would post this here for everyone to read..

Sid
ps
Well I am going to go now and do some of this self care..like I said I was going to do this weekend...

Self Care

Davit,

Yes there is a fine line here and I guess it is about having balance in ones life too..

I forgot and left out one of the things they had listed under self care and taking time for yourself..

 "Speaking with family and friends"

And I want to add to that list...

Speaking with and spending some quality with time your spouse, partner, family and friends and also making new friends in the physical world out there..

I wonder if anyone else has anything they would like to add to there self care list?
