Random reason Number _____:

Reason #700: Watching the The Hobbit and not wanting the 3-hour movie to end because I want to get out for a smoke! What freedom!

Why are rewards important?

Hi Ashley,
I struggle with the concept of rewards. For me, a reward for not smoking would be something that I would give myself NOW and that I was NOT able to give myself whilst I was smoking. For example, when I smoked, I could have a massage so that negates a massage from being a reward for not smoking now. The one thing that I feel will be a reward for me now would be having my teeth whitened. This is not something I thought of doing or did whilst I was smoking, so it will feel like a reward (I am saving it for my 6-months quit). So, even though I agree that rewards are important - I can think of very few that will be MEANINGFUL rewards to me. I think I need to start seeing this in a different light but I don't know how to change this mindset.

quitting in two days and nervous

Hi Max and Humble,
Just keep remembering that you are not "giving up" anything. You are, in fact, gaining freedom, life and health!
Give it horns!

Your Top 3 - Inspirational Reads

As far as smoking quits are concerned, I found Allen Carr's "Easy Way To Stop Smoking".

Overall inspirational book for me was Mitch Alblom's "The Five People You Meet In Heaven". Keeps me grounded and mindful....

Hi

Hi Sammy,
I also quit by using Champix and I also, thankfully, didn't have any side-effects. Well done for trying again and hang in there. The first few days are the worst. Take deep breaths, drink lots of iced water and keep busy. Take a walk when the craving hits, go have a chat with some-one, watch TV, read a book - take your mind off the craving as much as you can. I have realized that the quitting process IS a war... but we can win it.

Still craving... :-(

Today should be a pow-wow, happy day for me! I have achieved 6 months of smoke-free living and yet I am feeling really down. I am craving a cigarette and this makes me even more depressed because SURELY, SURELY after 6 months I should not be feeling as bad as this?

Stomach Issues

Hi TDawg,
I had the worst constipation for about 2 months after I stopped smoking, so perhaps your symptoms are as a result of quitting. Nevertheless, you know your body better than anyone. If you are feeling bad, perhaps consider going to the doctor for a check-up.
Be strong!
