Random reason Number _____:

Random Reason Number #999 - Not feeling like a fool and hating yourself and your addiction as you try to find a smoking area in a hospital. All this as you roll your IV drip around with you...

93 days...

So happy that I have managed to get to 93 days - 3 months of not smoking!
It even SOUNDS like I am getting somewhere - I just have to keep checking in here and reading all your inspiring stories and invaluable advise.
Thanks, everyone

93 days...

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!
I haven’t even thought of a reward – I will certainly start looking at options. My 100 day anniversary is falling on a strange day – I am due to have a hip replacement on that day so I am hoping to reward myself with a whole lot of exercise once I am up and about.

Congrats Litsa!!!... You?ve reached the Beach!!! 100 DAYS!!!

Hi everyone and thank you for the encouragement on my 100 days! I was in hospital on the day undergoing hip surgery, so I couldn't even log in but am happy to say that I am back home, walking (on crutches) and most importantly smoke-free!

Your Input on Site Design Needed

Hi Ashley,

I think that the "Find Helpful" feature is just right as it is. I don’t find it competitive at all and sometimes it is more than “Thank you” that I would like to say.

To clarify, when you talk about the Online/Offline indicator, I presume that it is the “dot” above a person’s details on the left-hand-side of all the posts? I have never seen anyone’s status as “online” – the dot is always orange and OFFLINE. I think it would be tremendously helpful to have an indicator with immediate effect as to when someone is online/offline. Living 9 hours ahead of most of the members I am usually posting when everyone is sleeping and would love to know if any members are logged in at the same time as me.

Hypnotism

Hi Hopeful,

I have never been hypnotised, so this is just conjecture on my part, but a successful hypnotism for me would be that I would want my brain to be reprogrammed into thinking that I did not smoke. If you have never smoked (or have ceased to remember that you did) then you will not miss it, right? If this is what hypnosis is, I would go for it, but reading though the posts here, I can see that it isn’t.

I think Lolly has hit the nail on the head when she says that you have to make a conscious decision not have another cigarette. I “talk“ to myself all the time about the benefits of not smoking. At the end of the day, is that not a form of self-hypnosis?

Quit day set for 11/19/2012 Looking for support

Hi Goofy,

I am so encouraged by your post - thank you! This is what I want to hear from ex-smokers; that they have missed their quit anniversary and that they don't give even a fleeting thought to cigarettes any longer. That is the status I want to reach! I want to "forget" that I have ever smoked. I don't want it to be part of my life or my thinking process. I don't want to do battle every day - one can lose a few along the way...

I can't wait till I'm free for good, forever!

What Not To Say

I had a chuckle whilst reading your statements, Dori, because I recognize most of them! My best one is:
"Just have one after dinner or with a drink and don't smoke during the day."

I cant stop eating....

Hey Hopeful,

Try not to stress too much about the eating. You are on day 4. At this stage you can be as grumpy and eat as much you want! You are changing your whole life for the better and change requires a bit of struggle.
Why not try to eat low carb type of food? Celery sticks, carrots - things that take a long time to chew. Someone once also mentioned sucking on a clove. Apparently, it has antiseptic qualities and numbs your mouth a bit.
My substitute for smoking has become tea (with no sugar). Every time I am craving a cigarette, I make myself a cup of tea. The fact that I am moving around and doing something also takes my mind off the craving, I think.
Stay strong!
