rocsteadie, Here is an article that helped me early on in my quit Nicotine, Stress and Anger, it may help you or others. There are a lot of quitters that make it on their first try and a lot of cold turkey quitters that are successful also. Gobble gobble! One HUGE factor is attitude. If you can see the positives in living smoke-free and in the journey to get you there - it will be much easier. As you spend your last couple days as a smoker, think about all the things you hate about smoking and know that Monday will be the first step in giving you a better life. Rocsteadie, Smoking and stress go hand in hand for a lot of people so please know you're not alone. Your want to smoke is partially due to the release of neurotransmitters (chemicals in your brain) nicotine induces. These neurotransmitters are responsible for good mood and having a smoke in a stressful situation is like getting a quick pick-me-up. The other half of the coin is that it gives you a time-out to sort through the problem your facing and/or sort through your emotions. Solution? New coping strategies! Here are a few examples: * Walk away. Take your time-out but spend it differently. Deep breathing, squeezing a stress ball or a brisk walk may be all you need to bring those stress levels. * Deal with the problem. Take a deep breath, look at the source of the problem, brainstorm solutions, act and reward yourself for doing a good job or doing your best! * Talk to a friend or write in a journal. This helps you sort through your emotions and thoughts. It also leads way for problem solving if applicable. * Physical activity: Many have found it helpful in getting out aggression, relieving tension and anxiety. It's also a mood booster! * Reward yourself! If you've had a stressful day at the office, baby yourself later. Do anything that might make you feel better. It's important to take that time for yourself. Absolutely, a high stress job makes it challenging but it is doable. Remember, smoking does not relieve stress. Studies have found that individuals stress levels were lower after they quit. Hope this helps. Danielle - Bilingual Support Specialist

dude smoking will not make your high stress job and less stressful. In fact, I have read that smoking only compounds stress and makes it worse while the user feels it is what they need to relieve it. Just get informed go through withdrawl and kick its sorry rear. We are all behind you.
