mylast, You're dealing with some tough stuff and I'm so proud that you've made it through!!! I'm sorry to hear about you and your husband's health issues, but happy to hear that you feel better with the diagnoses made. Everyone's given such great advise and it seems as if the worst is over, but I just wanted to lend you some support and a hug, so *hugs* :) It doesn't help much, but...hey. It's what I've got. Have a good weekend!!!!!! Kita, When you look for a counselor be sure to ask for one that teaches behavior modification. You do have to do some work. Such as writing down how you feel about certain situations and practicing how a normal person that doesn't worry so much feels about things. It's like retraining your brain and it is very helpful. Somehow people who worry too much exagerate alot of situations and your thinking gets skewed. The key is to get yourself back to normal moderate thinking. Good luck with it! Hey Mylast, First of all I am so happy for your good news. Now you can just get down to business and take care of yourself. Sometimes we need to be scared to death to open our eyes. I know I am a compulsive worrier myself and did not know there was help out there for that so thank for sharing that :)

No masses in my lungs! Just uncomplicated emphysema. I never thought I could be happy with such a diagnosis but it's a lot better than the other. Now it's work out and take care of myself time. Lainey, I think I am going to go to therapy for this excesive worrying. I had to do that once before. They do behaviour modification and help you turn your way of thinking around to normal. It's been about 8 years and it worked like a charm but I think I might need a refresher because I am wasting my life away with worry. New Me, I think it's going great without the patch. I am having cravings but only with the stress. I know that smoking won't make it better though. Smoking would actually make me feel worse. How's your gum and lozenges? I wouldn't quit them until you are sure you are absolutely ready. I knew that when I took off that patch I wasn't going to smoke no matter what. I also carried the patches with me just in case I started freaking out. I would go through the craves and then another one would hit and I would think to myself do I put the patch on or not? I rationalized it by thinking that every crave I went through was one less that I wouldn't have to go through later, thinking is this one bad enough to put the patch back on and start over at square one? They just never got bad enough to have to relive them again. Daneille, Thanks for your kind words and reinforcing that smoking would not make it better. Mercy, Thanks for giving me a reality check on this by saying that the chances were small. I hung on those words. Also, I am gonna take up your advice about vitamans and working out. You all have really helped me keep my sanity together through this! Thanks! I hope I can repay this by effecting someones elses quit in a positve way. Hey Mylast! Someone once told me, "Don't worry, until you have something to worry about." So you see you're not alone, I have always been a worrier too. I have also read, use the words from Gone With the Wind when Ms. Scarlett says "I'll worry about that tomorrow!" Journalling really helps when you are worrying, getting it on paper helps let it out! The fact that we are extra emotional since we quit adds a bit more drama to every occassion! So just a little something I try to keep in mind, to keep things in prespective! Smoking is not an Option! NOPE :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 108 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,700 Amount Saved: $1,139.40 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 5 Mins: 42 Seconds: 21

Your husband having surgery is going to be stressful, also. But, not life threatening. That is good. We do have to learn to live our lives without turning to nicotine every 30 minutes. We will get there, mylast. Hope your days are going to be a little more peaceful now. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 624 Amount Saved: $130.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 15 Mins: 30 Seconds: 40

Mylast, Hang in there as this is normal. Smoking was how you coped and now that you've quit, you may be feeling a little lost. Keep persevering and try to employ some new coping strategies such as journalling or taking a long walk, hot bath or other that will help bring you back down to earth. Also know that no matter the results of your test, quitting is the best thing you could have done for your COPD as it aids tremendously in halting its progression. I am worrying too much! Making a mountain out of an ant hill. My husband is going to live. I just let my imagination run away with me. He has injuries in different parts of his body and he has been in extreme pain. Well I thought he might have bone cancer because he has really been suffering in all these differnt spots in his body. Turns out he does have a pretty serious back problem with nerve damage that is affecting his leg and foot and he is also going to have to have surgery on his hand for a different problem. It was just scary when they said they wouldn't talk about it over the phone. Guess I need to smack myself for getting carried away. I feel that my emotions are so raw right now. My last quit I would get very irratable for months after the quit and I would tell people exactly what I thought. Your posts helped me see how crazy I have been thinking. I haven't got results yet for me & I am still concerned but I won't lose sleep over it. Why chase trouble? I just feel like I better get more control over my emotions. Thank you for your posts I have read them a few times and it has really helped. Mylast, I'm sorry you are so upset. Take one thing at a time. I can only imagine having to worry about copd, tests and lung xrays. Reality is you may be worrying more than you need to. The odds of having lung cancer is small. I know we need to worry because we smoked...but there are many...many people who smoke and don't get it either. I know you are worried about COPD.....but you already did the best thing you could for that. You quit smoking. Also..... this is the year 2007 and there is new medications all the time to treat things. Besides...after your quit is solid you can work diligently on improving your lungs and being very phsically fit. You can make it your goal to be the best that you've ever been in your life. Make ita fun health kick thing. Read up on foods...vitamins...etc..that are good for your condition. Read up on the best cardio excercises to improve your lungs. Make a new healthy you!!! I'm sure your doctor wants to talk to your husband in person because of all the new hippa laws dealing with patient confidencialty....and they get to charge for a visit in the office....instead of a free phone call. Keep us posted and vent all you want. You'll be on my mind. mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 149 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,980 Amount Saved: $666.03 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 16 Mins: 2 Seconds: 1

Well today I am not craving as much but I can not stop crying. A co-worker just came in my office and I unloaded (crying) on him. I don't know him well enough to do that. Can't seem to control myself right now. My doctor has called me in a few nerve pills. My dear husband is going through some medical problems and his dr. called this morning and wouldn't talk about the test results over the phone. He wants to see him tomorrow morning in his office I am very scared for my husband. I also found out yesterday my COPD is a little worse than first thought. The doctor ordered chest x-rays and I didn't realize that this was standard procedure so it scared me a little. I know that there is chance that they might find something worse so I am a little concerned. Chest x-rays/Pulmonary tests to a ex-smoker are just horrifying. It's facing the reality you have denied all those years. Sorry I have been a little vague about this I am just having some real bad moments but the desire to smoke has stopped being so bad now that I can't stop crying. I guess it's a combination worry and the quit that are making me so emotional. Thank you all for your concern and advice. It helps to know that there are people who care,I really do need help right now!
