Stress today

Mylast, As you get deeper in your quit you will begin to find ways that deal with stress AS GOOD.... if not BETTER than cigarettes. I know for me....walking relieves my stress better than smoking and keeps my weight down. I also know that when craves hit I find it helpful to come and post and help people here. I also find that reading just a few scriptures or bible based devotionals helps. Also.... sour candy...and herbal teas. So those are the four things that help me. Take some time and experiement with different things that make you feel good. How about rubbing on scented lotion with your eyes closed....a quick shower with gel....a 5 minute rock in the rocking chair....jogging in place for 3 minutes........... Your doing great Hope there is nothing serious with your health. I'm sure you'll be fine. If you need to share we are here for you. Oh, I understand it mylast, We are addicted to nicotine! Every addict knows that his abusive substance of choice is harmful to them, but they keep on seeking it out, using it, promising themselves that they are going to quit; whether it be heroine, cocaine, meth, or nicotine. So, we should be absolutely proud that we have even seen our way through this maze of cravings to actually stay clean of our abusive substance. Geez, I used to smoke when I was sick as a dog, I would smoke when my children were pleading me to stop. But, I totally understand what you are saying. Mentally and physically, we understand that we should not smoke cigs, yet when something out of the ordinary, (or even something very ordinary, like sitting on the patio), happens, our first reaction is to reach for a cigarette. We have been doing this for 30+ years. Stress is a huge trigger for me also. I got in a little spat with my ex yesterday. My first reaction was to get in my car, ready to light up. He smokes, too, so I could have easily bummed one. Instead, I LEFT the situation.I hope that you had a relaxing evening. Some day we won't give two hoots about cigs. I am looking forward to that day and staying smoke free so i can reach that goal. I know that you will also. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 576 Amount Saved: $120.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 1 Seconds: 8

Thanks so much for the sugestions. I am gonna try the bath to relax & distract. I just knew I wouldn't smoke but the cravings have really hit hard. Stress is my trigger! It made me crazy though to think that at a time when smoking is being blamed for my health problems that I can even want one. Sorry to hear about the news from the dr. I certainly hope that you are going to be alright, mylast. I know that you will not smoke. Stress is stress, with or without cigs. Smoking would strss you out soooo much more. Do some deep breathing, read what Casey has written and try and chill out this evening with a nice long walk, a hot bath with some aromatherapy, or a good book. My thoughts are with you. Someday we will never think about this horrible addiction again. Hang tough. You aare doing great. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 552 Amount Saved: $115.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 50 Seconds: 45

I really got thrown for loop at dr.s appt today and I have to have some additional tests. This is stressing me out completely. Of course, the first and worst thing I think about is a smoke. I didn't slip but how come the thing causing all this trouble is the thing I wanted? I was actually weak in the knees I was so frightened and that is when the thoughts of a nasty cig crept in. I definetly am not going to cave but I still am having some pretty sizable craves from this stress. Ugh!!!
