Using your Values as your Compass

Hi Hugs,

Doing practical things can be rewarding too! If you value taking care of others or having a comfortable home.

It's all about finding a balance.

Hi Ashley,

I did a course where my values were compassion, resourcefulness, advocacy, balance, spirituality.

As I plan, it seems I get so sidetracked!  With all the stuff I need to do, I end up looking at details.  eg.  There's all this stuff to do around the house, and i end up looking at choosing bath mats, and going to stores

Hi Davit,

You are certainly very lucky to be able to do what you want to do but it is also a testement to your strength and determination to have created the life that gives you so much fulfillment.

It seems clear to me that you value your independence and productive work

Ashley

I am one of those people happy with what I have to do because it is also what I want to do. I don't wish I was doing something else. In fact the only times I had work I did not like I quit and found something else I did like.
The only times I am sad is when I can't get done as much as I would like because of my disability.
I doubt there are many people like this. I may be wrong there though. Unfortunately not everyone gets to do what they want to. Those are going to need your help.

Sometimes we can lose our way. Sometimes we get so caught up in what we need to do and forget about what we want to do. If we stay like this for too long we may start to feel unsatisfied with life. Leading a life that you value and that gives you fulfillment is important to your health and well being. When you feel fulfilled you are happier, more confident and more productive. For the next while we will be talking about values; how to figure out what you value and then direct your life towards those values.

The first step is having a good understanding of what you value. So, what do you value? Not what you think you should value or what your family or society values; what you value. What gives you fulfillment? Some examples of values are: Family, Helping people, Art, Success, Animals, Being Active, Spirituality and Nature.  What are some others you can think of?

Write them down here and we will work through it together
