Thank you all for the warm welcome. :) I have tried breathing techniques to get me through the attack once it fires up. I've already begun the program and today I was (nearly) panic free. I felt the familiar tingling/cool sensation in my arms and legs, rapid heart beat, and managed to rationally talk myself to a calm while breathing deeply. I've never been able to stave a panic attack off before, so I feel like it's already working.. ha! :) Hopefully it's nothing but progress from here on out.

Bonjour billetdoux:  yes, I believe it is panic.  I had the same things once upon a time.  I am now panic free for several yrs. now.  I have studied the CBT program and attended support group.  I joined here as a refresher when I was ill and noticed some symptoms coming back.  Happy to say it never went any further.
Research has shown this is one of the best programs for anxiety/stress.  I hope you do the whole program and the homework which is very important.  It will help you understand yourself better, what your triggers are, how your thought patterns affect you and why.
Hope to hear from you again.

Hi billetdoux!

Welcome to the boards.  We appreciate that you took the time to share your story with us. We're here to support you!

It sounds like you experience quite a few physical symptoms when your panic attacks are triggered. Have you tried using some relaxation or visualization techniques when this happens? In addition, you could use the techniques suggested in the program. Let us know if this works for you...

Hang in there!

Hello everyone. A little about myself.. I am in my final year of college and have suffered from panic attacks before since I was 9 years old. Just recently, however, I began experiencing almost a "new breed" of panic attacks that have been much more intense and recurrent. My first of this kind was while I was standing in my kitchen talking to my roommate, when out of nowhere I felt my arms and legs get tingly, I felt disconnected from the situation, I felt faint and immediately broke into a cold sweat and a rapid heart beat. After it subsided, I was shaking and had the chills. All of my previous panic attacks had been predominantly a "disconnected" or "detached" feeling, almost like I was dreaming. I've never experienced such physical symptoms before. This happened several more times, and I eventually admitted myself to the ER not knowing whether or not this was something serious. After blood work and countless tests (mitral valve, thyroid, blood sugars and electrolytes, CT scans for blood clots of my chest and head, EKG) all came out negative which leads me to believe that it is panic that is beginning to debilitate my life so suddenly. I find myself worrying constantly over another episode, and any minor fluctuation in my body triggers paranoia and worry about whether or not I'll faint in public or whether or not I'll have someone around to help me. My mother has suffered from anxiety disorders all her life and is convinced that my sudden manifestation of physical symptoms is simply panic. I hope to get some insight from the others here on how to manage it and regain normalcy in my life.
