You are so right. I am looking only for the big picture and forgot the small things that count in life. This is a cognitive distortion that I have about the reality (all-or-none thinking).

Eleveno.

You are looking at the big picture only. Like not seeing a tree because the forest is in the way. I'm sure you have many small pleasures you just don't acknowledge. I know I do.

How true...remember the old saying, count your blessings?  especially when you go to bed at night?  To write down at least three good things which happened to you during the day?  or three things for which you are grateful?  Let's do it!

Good point Vincenza. It seems I am always looking for the bad to happen and forgot the positives I have in my life.

The last good experience I had was to travel with my wife for a short vacation.

Members,

The last strategy in beginning to change negative core beliefs is to keep track of positive experiences.

Because you’re sad or depressed, you’ve trained yourself to only pay attention to the information that confirms your old negative core beliefs and to not see or pay attention to information that shows you how true your positive core beliefs actually are. If you’re going to change your negative core beliefs, you’ll need to pay better attention. How are you going to do that? Keep a positive experiences journal. This can be a life saver when you’re really feeling down and can help with thought challenging.

This may not be easy at first. You may doubt yourself as it would confirm your old negative beliefs but we encourage you to keep at it! If you’re unsure whether or not the experience was a positive one, enlist the help of the support group or therapist to help you along.

What was your latest positive experience?
