Driving alone

Good luck, Teebs.  Go slay the dragon!  You can do it.  Pulling over is just fine.  I used to sing at the top of my voice whenever I felt a little panic coming on.  Great distraction and it made me breathe and get oxygen.

This is exactly the sort of attitude I need to adopt. I'm definitely going, and if I panic I'll just pull over til it passes like you said. I've done this drive so many times I'll probably be fine anyway. I'll let this dragon keep on flying away!

A panic attack is just a panic attack no matter where you have it, on the road or at home. If it happens on the road just pull over and ride it out. What is the worst that can happen? You will be late! Better late than never. Your not going to let being late stop you from a visit are you. You will see, it will be okay. It is just one of Shari's dragons on the loose. Let it pass.

Here for you.

Driving is not normally a fear of mine, but I have had some anticipatory anxiety over a 5 hour drive I have to do this weekend by myself. I've done this drive many times before (to visit family) but with the hard time I've been going through lately I'm more worried about doing it this time. Even though I don't often have anxiety around driving I keep thinking "What if I have a bad panic attack hours from home and hours from my destination, and I'm all by myself?"

Members,

Do you struggle with anxiety? Today we will be looking at sample exposure plans to help you overcome your fears.

If you fear driving…

• Sit outside and look at the car for 1 hour
• Sit in a car outside alone with the engine off for 1 hour
• Sit in a car outside alone with the engine on for ½ hours. (Do not do this in an enclosed space due to carbon monoxide poisoning.)
• Sit in a car outside alone with the engine on for 1 hour. (Do not do this in an enclosed space due to carbon monoxide poisoning.)
• At a quiet time drive around one block for one hour
• Drive in a quiet residential neighborhood for 1 hour
• Drive in the same residential area at a busier time of day
• Drive on a wider street during a quiet time of day for an hour
• Repeat as above but make turns, change lanes & stop.
• Drive on a wider street during a busier time of day for an hour.
• Repeat as above but make turns, change lanes & stop.
• Increase the amount of time and frequency of your driving gradually.

Is driving a fear of yours?
