In order to really understand negative core beliefs in the first place I am going to need to sign into the depression center and study the lesson there again. I just took a brief look at it before posting here.  It has been a really long time since I read it so I am not ready to do the exercise here yet.. After doing that I will be better equipped to answer the questions here.  I am sure that the exercise you have posted here will help with my depression.

One of the things I find hard about challenging negative core beliefs is accepting that they are there in the first place. These are the things that  control our thoughts and actions and have been there so long we accept them as normal. It is hard to have a friend point them out but some times it is necessary. Better to get it from more than one friend actually. I think this is one of the hardest things members will deal with and may take some time. I think there is going to be a lot of embarrassment when people find them and a lot of not willing to admit they are there. And a lot of tears. There may even be some minor set backs, after all you are asking people to look at things that they don't like about themselves. Again we are down to positive instead of negative and for those that can do this it will be a big step in the reduction of anxiety and panic. I would like to remind people that this will make them better people in the long run.

Once you’ve identified your negative core beliefs you can begin to challenge and change them. This means that you’ll be challenging the source of your depression. However, in order to challenge your negative core beliefs you need to identify and test out some new positive core beliefs.
 
Instead of focusing on the negative core beliefs you have about yourself, the world, other people and the future, we’re going to get you to focus on developing new and more positive core beliefs. In order to do that, we want you to think about how you’d like to be, how you’d like the world and other people to be, what you’d like the future to look like.
 
As the first step towards developing more positive core beliefs we’d like you to ask and answer the following questions. Write out your answers in the space provided before you move on to the next page:
