Hey Doreen:  You sound just about what I used to be like!  I say used to be because I don't get panic attacks like that anymore.  You can get better Doreen, this site, CBT is the best.  I hope you stay with the site long enough to get through all the chapters.  Don't give up.  Hang in there.  This is a place where you will be understood...imagine that!  When I had my panic attacks, there was nothing available.  We hear you and this site is very friendly and encouraging.  Hope to hear from you again.  p.s. you can rant and rave as much as you want.  Feels good.

Hi Doreen,
So glad you joined the group.  You will find that everyone here is very understanding and helpful.  I am fairly new to this group and have found that the sessions in themselves have helped me tremendously.  You have already taken the first step to understanding and being able to control your panic and anxiety just by joining our site.  Welcome and hope to hear from you often.

HI Doreen,

Welcome to forum.

You have come to the right place. This is a really good program and a very friendly group.  The Educators will step in with help and advice if you ask questions.
I would start off by reading some of the sessions and you will soon begin to understand your condition and be given the tools to help you get started.  Their will be homework and I am not going to say getting better is not going to be work and a little tiring.  Once I began to understand what was wrong with me and that I was not the only one with this problem, I began to feel better. Once I learned how to help myself get better I started to feel better about myself.  Remember to take your time working the sessions and go easy on yourself.   We will all be listening and we really do care about each here.

HI Doreen,

Welcome and know that you are not alone. You are doing the right thing by seeking help of someone who can teach you CBT. It works, I had my first attack about 4 months ago and CBT along with certain meds has DRASTICALLY changed my circumstances. I am not cured yet but I feel better and better everyday. I have learned to accept the panic and am working on ways to cope and then eliminate or further desensitize my self to it. It is by no means easy and I know that I have along way to go but there is help. Be proud of yourself for taking the steps to helping yourself to feel better and know that you are on the right track towards wellness. This site is awesome with tons of people who are VERY helpful in questions and experiences. Good luck with your treatment.

Hi Doreen,

Welcome to the group!  The symptoms you have listed all sound like Panic, have you talked to your doctor about all these symptoms to rule out other causes?

This program will be a real asset to you.  Make a plan to insure you will work on it every week.  Set rewards for yourself for completing parts of the program.  Be sure to come here and post often.  We are all here to support you.  You are not in this alone.

You say you engage in certain activities.  What is the result of doing these activities?  Do you know what normally triggers your panic?

Hello everyone my name is Doreen and I'm here seeking some advice on panick attacks/anxiety. My attacks have gotten out of control. However, I'm learning to take control of it through cognitive behavorial therapy. Some of the things I go through on a daily basis. The feeling of fainting, blurred vision, feels like i get stabbed on my chest & back, i get burning sensations in the middle of my chest & stomach feels like ulcers, (don't have ulcer-dr. ruled that out)  extreme cramping on my lower abdomen, feel so edgy, fear of heart attack or stroke, shooting pains on my legs and arms, the feeling that my head is going to explode, dizziness, pain underneath my arm pit (somewhere in that area). These sensations "feelings" don't happen all at once, but I do get several of them at one time.  I check my blood pressure and heart rate when I'm having these attacks and they seem to be out of whack which sends me even more in to a panick. Normally when I feel panick I'll have palpitations, just recently I didn't feel that. However,my back started to feel tight, my neck and jaw got tight, plus blurred vision. No palpitations, but when I checked my heart. It was a high number. Has anyone had this sensation? When things like this happen I just want  to break down and cry. I try to stay positive and change my way of thinking. I've also tried to engage in some activity. Such as going to the mall, socializing at bbq's/parties, playing video games like halo 3. Well I'm going to cut it right here. I just about wrote a book.
