Hi John
Congrats on the 2 week milestone! You are now past the hardest part. Cravings will come back but you now know you can handle them and they pass. Thinking that you never want to do that 2 weeks again is another great incentive not to go back. Enjoy that pizza...yum!

Hey John you are doing great keep up the good work. Indeed it is very exciting to be able to smell again and to regain tasting all my favorite foods. I always use that as a reminder to myself when I am tempted by the nico devil. These are the new things for me I don't want to give up again. Stay strong, you are doing great!!!!

Hi Pappy

The benefits are getting better all the time, one big one for me is I can get up out of bed and not cough and go make a roll up  before even having a cup of Tea, and there are new benefits, I can smell things and starting to taste my food

I found that by focusing on all of the benefits of me not smoking also helped me through those times where the nico devil was calling me to come back. I can tell you this does get easier as time passes. Stay strong and take this one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Keep all of us posted on your progress it's an inspiration to all of us to hear such great success stories.

Hi Plehdeen,
Congratulations on being smoke free for over two weeks already.   "I get sudden extra heavy urgent feelings of dread and despair." This is a normal reaction at the beginning of a quit. It's because you feel like you have lost your best friend the cigarette, but that was no friend. It was only shortening your life with every breath you inhaled from it. Like Pappy said, your mind is trying its best to make you cave in and go back to smoking. You just have to be stronger than the urge. In time, these feelings of despair will go away, but if they don't or they get too much stronger, I'd suggest you go talk to your doctor. I'm sure he/she can help you. There are a couple of sister sites to this Stop Smoking Center that may be able to help you out too. Click on the help at the top of the page, and then other sites. Depression center and panic center are the ones I'm thinking of.
Have you tried to quit before? How long were you a smoker? "It seems I can handle the idea of not smoking for the next hour / day, but the though of the rest of my life is in fact too much" Try not to think about the future too much at this point in your quit journey. Just concentrate on today, the here and now. Each day that you stay quit, you build up more resistance to help re-enforce your quit journey and you become stronger than the urge. It's all mental now since you have NO nicotine left in your system. "my brain being rewired for nicotine" Well actually, its happening because your brain is starting to be rewired to re-learn how to deal with everything without the nicotine. It's going to take a while, but it will happen. I wish you best on your quit journey Doug, hang in there, it will get easier.
Stay strong.
