Hi Camille,
It sounds like you are doing great, keep it up!  You are into blah week already, how time does fly by. Not only are you saving all that money now, but look at how many cigarettes you have not smoked too.
"Just ordered a pair of pink converse high tops with the money I saved so far." What a wonderful reward for yourself. Rewards help to re-enforce your quit.
Keep it going and stay strong!

I thought I'd just drop in to say hi and check out my little no smoking meter. I'd lost track, but today is my 17th day without smoking. That's pretty cool. But, for me, what makes me happier is that I've saved $60.69. I'm disabled. And there were times I was literally counting pennies to make sure I had enough for dog food for my babies and a cheap pack of smokes for me.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who knows what it's like to hit the occasional financial hump and have to choose between food (sustenance) and smokes (self-harm).  And it feels really good to be spending those few dollars on myself.

Just ordered a pair of pink converse high tops with the money I saved so far.

Keep going folks. I know it gets very difficult sometimes, that inner struggle to resist. But I want us all to get free of nicotine and over to the pink high top side. :)

Hi KatieEm and LadyBoss,
Congratulations to both of you for deciding to quit smoking. What a great way to start out the new year!  If you have the time, you should both go through the "my program" at the top of the page. There's some good information in there to help you along your journey to freedom from nicotine.
You also might want to start your own thread, kind of like a public journal, that you can look back on if you happen to slip, and if you don't slip, something to look back on and get some good chuckles out of when you have your quit well under control. For some reason we write some strange things while breaking the nicotine habit.
I'm sure Camille doesn't mind you using this thread though, isn't that right Carpediem? We're all in this same boat together, some of us longer than others. Once again, congratulations to both of you for trying to quit smoking.
Stay strong and watch out for all those triggers.

Morning Corinna - Today is day 3 for me. My last smoke was on New Years Eve. (not sure before or after mid night) but I do know that something that has started helping me in the car (which is when I would normally smoke 2 on the way to work and 2 on the way home from work) is putting on classical music. For some reason it soothes the craving and makes everything less stress full. Also read some where that drinking juices will help (esp. cranberry ) with the craving.
I have noticed though that I am extremely more tried that I am used to, as I sit at my desk here at work I'm having a hard time staying awake....I've already had like 4 cups of coffee but it's just not working this morning....

hey corinna,

congratulations on making the decision to take back your power. i was hoping someone would go through my first week with me, but i just got through mine (day 9) and what really got me through the first few days were jolly ranchers and this site. believe it or not, i wake up and still have my coffee and am not even thinking about that first cigarette.

the people here are great for encouragement and advice. you can definitely do this. it'll get easier if you just hold tight (and buy a bag of jolly ranchers :D )

Hello everybody. Today is day one for me. I was going to start New Year’s Day but I ended up smoking 3 cigarettes and then yesterday I smoked one. Today my goal is to smoke none. I’m trying to do things to keep me busy and I’m using nicotine patches., I really think that helped me not smoke as much. The cravings are tough, but the hardest part is breaking the habit. I joined this site today and think it will definitely help me stay focused and motivated. I will be back to post later when I’m dying for a cigarette. Looking forward to getting to know you. By the way I just woke up half an hour ago and feel like smoking... ugh, I hate those nasty things. Have a great day. Corinna

Hi Carpediem,
It sounds like your quit is going good for you and you have it under control so far. You need to be careful though. It only takes one slip to blow your journey to freedom. Just when you think you have it made, something, could be major or it could be minor, will test you. You can't give in ever. You're back in control of your life again instead of those nasty cigarettes, but it's only been a week. Please be careful.
It would be nice if you would pop in once in awhile and keep us updated with your progress.
Stay strong.

Day 8

I think this will be my last post but, just in case it may help someone else, I officially woke up this morning a nonsmoker. No cravings, not even a brief fleeting thought about wanting a drag. But I know that if i ever buy that first pack, it's all over.

The people on this site are so encouraging and helpful and I want to thank everyone who commented and helped me through the last week. You guys rock! :)

wow, i just responded to someone named jan. i thought it was in this thread, but apparently not. lol

so week 1 down. and i really appreciate everyone's encouragement to help me get through those first seven days. my weakness is buying that first pack just to have an "occasional smoke." yeah, right! at least i'm clear about it now. as long as i don't buy that first pack, i'm good to go. feels good to be on this side of week one :D
