First 24 hours down

5 years ago 0 14 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
hey tim,

yeah, i guess i passed 48 hours. actually, the day 2 cravings were a bit stronger -- like tugging at me to go buy a pack and just smoke 1. lol

but a jolly rancher, or a walk with the dogs, or anything to distract myself for that first 10 or 15 seconds seems to do it and the cravings subside. i guess i'll just keep checking in here as a way to hold myself accountable and let anyone else who's quitting follow along. but thanks for checking :)

Hi Carpediem,
How is your 2nd day going? Are you still a quitter? Quitting smoking is a great way to end the year, and start off the new year nicotine free.
Stay strong.

Hi Carpediem,
Congratulations on starting your quit journey again. Eight years was great run, sorry to hear you fell into that "just one" trap and blew it.
"Had my afternoon coffee with no cigarette; that's a milestone" Milestones are meant to be celebrated, enjoy the good feelings that go with it. "I'm having this mental tug of war about going to buy a pack even though I don't want to smoke them" It's that darn NicoDemon playing with your head. Just do your best to ignore him. Distract yourself, keep yourself busy. You were able to quit before so you should be able to do it again. It might be harder for you this time, but then again, it may be easier. All depends on your frame of mind. "I'm sure I'm not making any sense" Ah yes, the cloudy mind at the start of a quit...completely normal. As you know from your past quit it does clear up in time. "But I figured if I'm posting here, I'm not driving to the convenience store. :)" That's the spirit!  I wish you the best on this journey.
Stay strong.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

So, I don't like cigarettes. I smoked menthols for 30 years, quit for 8 years, then i started smoking regulars again for the past 2 or 3 years. Even though I get an urge to smoke, I don't like them. They don't taste good. On Christmas Eve I woke up coughing. That bothered me so I finished the pack and haven't bought any more. But yesterday, Christmas Day, I woke up with almost no voice. It would have been my first day but I had a couple of butts lying around from which I got a couple of puffs.  So I'm using 3 pm yesterday as my start time so I just hit 24 hours.

And now the cravings are getting serious. Had my afternoon coffee with no cigarette; that's a milestone. But it's the weirdest thing that I can't explain -- and I'm a writer! lol -- I'm having this mental tug of war about going to buy a pack even though I don't want to smoke them. I'm sure I'm not making any sense. But I figured if I'm posting here, I'm not driving to the convenience store. :)
