Oral surgery is a great time to quit. I thought I could get by with just smoking a couple and I got dry socket which is EXTREMELY painful!!! Please save yourself from this!

Hey! I guess any advice I have is just from what I did to make it this far (1month). I suggest a nicotine replacement therapy. I used the patch and couldnt have handled the cravings if I didn't. Find what works for you. Use the supports you have and reach out for help if you need it. Do your research and understand what nicotine addiction is and how your affected by it and the upcoming withdrawals. Believe in yourself. It took me a while to believe in myself. You CAN do this!! Chew a lot of gum, I give my self breather breaks instead of smoke breaks. I avoided alcohol and friends for about 3 weeks. Some people do it for longer or not at all. What are you planning on doing to manage and succeed?

Welcome Geo1125,

Congrats on cutting down. That's already a lot of hard work taken care of!

It sounds like stress triggers cravings for you. How else do you think you can cope with the stress? What has worked in the past? What do you think you might like to try as an alternative  coping mechanism?

My many years of smoking caused advanced periodontal disease and now I need gum surgery on all four quadrants plus at least one implant.  I need to put the cigs to bed immediately!  The stress caused by the health issues makes me want to grab the darn things that helped me put myself in this predicament in the first place, ughhh!  I managed to cut down from 20 per day to 10 over the last month but am having a tough time when I get very stressed, especially now that some teeth have shifted and the problems are on my my 100% of the time.  Although there is no simple answer, any advice from fellow members would be appreciated.
