Hey Tim!

Yes, I was so serious and committed to gain my freedom I would have shut the tap off if I had failed myself !  I wanted my quit MORE than I wanted to smoke and I also wanted that "Ahhhhh" at the end of the day after that first swallow more than a smoke!  It did work for me among other things!

Hey "L"!!!

It's great that you are doing so well so far!  Your uncle was great and a very wise man, too!  I can't wait to hear the story about "only 2"!!!  I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy that red last night and hope the experience did not end up being too much of a trigger.  Also glad that you found the rewards thread!  Lots of great info there!

It's great to see that you are still maintaining a great attitude through your first few days!  That's one thing that really helped me throughout my first few months and it really confused many people who knew that I was quitting!  Many were expecting to have to deal with a raving maniac, as I had been on previous quits!

      Hang in there!

                Jim

Jim, I love beer but I'm not too much of a snob about it. My great uncle who lived into his 90s and drank beer the whole way used to say "there's no bad beer, just warm or cold"   That's my speed on it. He also taught me "if anyone asks, tell them you only had 2"....but that's another story lol   I did stay away from any alcohol last weekend being so new to quitting and afraid of triggering. But you know what? I think tonight's reward will be a glass of red! Yum.

Tim, things are good! In fact, I had booked an appointment for the laser treatment for smoking cessation with a chiropractor and she has decided we should wait since I'm doing so well with the quit right now. I booked it last week and kept the appointment in case I needed a boost and also to learn more about it.

I am motivated  and keeping going with it.

Hey Motivated,
Day five and cruising on auto pilot. Is it getting any easier for you? That chocolate bar sounded good. Keep it up!

Hey Jim,
Concerning that craft beer, did you mean that if you were a bad boy the tap would be shut off? Sounds more like a bribe than a reward to me.  Just kidding. Whatever works!

Hey "L",

When I quit I set up my reward program so that I would have a reward daily if I was a good boy and made it through the day without smoking.  I still reward myself daily after more than 6 years!  It was something that I knew I would want daily so my reward plan kept me on the straight and narrow!  Since I am somewhat of a beer snob who truly enjoys a fine craft beer that is what I chose for my daily reward.  Well, it's still working!

We all celebrate other milestones such as weekly, 10 days, week 2, 1 month, 50 days, etc.  Celebrations should always involve rewards, imo!  It really helps to keep that PMA  going and keep us "motivated" to keep on kicking that nico-demon's ash!

Hiya Jim, and thanks for the warm welcome!

I am finding that the PMA with respect to smoking (or not smoking) is going far.  I'm feeling good and welcoming any feeling that's better as the days pass on.

I found the thread you mentioned a few days ago and did some writing on it as I was thinking about it more.  I do have a couple of ideas. I think I will be doing ones for week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, month, etc. BUT I did buy a chocolate bar last night as a reward - haha.  I will try and refrain from food ones though, I am a weight watcher .  It was a treat though.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Motivated!!!

I'm  usually a bit faster at welcoming new members, but free time for checking in has been missing lately.  Anyways, welcome and congrats on what looks like a promising new life for you!!!  I've always preached for new quitters to go forward on this journey with a Positive Mental Attitude from what I have read, you are glowing in that "PMA"!!!  If you can just keep the positive aspects of quitting in the forefront of your thinking every day, it certainly does make getting through the day much easier on you and those you come in contact with!  It looks like you are doing great so far, so just keep on doing what you are doing and feel free to let us know if you have any questions!

There are more than one thread here on the Forums related to "rewards," and I am a HUGE proponent of rewards!  I'll try to find the one which is called something like Low Cost or No Cost Rewards and bump it forward for you to take a look at.  Rewards don't have to cost much or anything at all.  It's all about the rewards in my book!

Hang in there and keep on telling yourself that you CAN do this!  Heck, if I can do it, anyone can!

                  Jim

Hey there John, how is your week going and thanks for the message.

Re-reading Allen Carr's book gave me a boost to be far happier with what I'm doing here.  It's the closest thing to magic to work for me lol.   I am on day 4 and feeling good though reading it did make me want to smoke at first.  I grabbed my e-cig (no nicotine in it) and puffed on that a bit, although I told myself I wouldn`t.  By the time I finished I was good.

Hi there motivated it's me again. I lost you for a moment are you on day 4 as your quit meter says or did you smoke while finishing Allen Carrs book? Either way it's ok as long as you do what is necessary to keep happy. Let me know and I'll advise accordingly ;) John

Good Morning and thanks Tim and Lolly, your encouragement is excellent.

I feel I had a good sleep last night for the parts I was asleep...it just felt like I woke up every 5 minutes! Oy.  I know this is partly getting used to my smoke free body and should pass.  I'm looking forward to nice, calm sleep.

I have not figured out any rewards yet but am working on it.  Or maybe I can look at that I ate out all weekend and didn't cook as a reward so far! It was a reward - it was nice not to have to worry about that too.

My brother called last night, surprisingly.  I didn't tell him though.    I almost did, but I'd like to wait a bit longer.  Right now, still my little secret.

Being Monday, I kind of have a feeling of "back to reality" and what it's going to bring. Not to mention this week at work is going to be a bugger because of problems we had at the end of last week.  So far, I've made it through them without smoking, I will make it through more without, too.

I hope everyone has a great start to their week.

Hi Motivated,

It sounds like you've had a few 'down' times.  The Nicodemon is around every corner!  Do be kind to yourself while you are quitting.  I understand why you have not told anyone...in case you fail maybe?!...I did the same at the start of my quit.  It does sound as if you do need someone to support you.  We are here at SSC, but posting can only do so much....you need a friend so that you can strut your stuff and boost your self-esteem.  You have done an amazing thing in quitting, but, as you are finding out, it goes on and on for quite a while, and periods of loneliness and depression do occur.

I remember the same stages, and I admit to the odd rant here at SSC...I found it hard to let off steam because, like yourself, I started very positive and forward looking, so people did not expect negativity from me. Everyone here was very supportive of me on my off days.  It does help to let off steam.  Are you giving yourself little rewards at all?  If not, I think maybe you need to start, as it will boost your Serotonin levels.  Just think how often you rewarded yourself with a cigarette when you had finished a task!!!  Have something to replace that cig. as a reward.

Stay Strong!  and   Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!

Love Lolly.
