Welcome Landskaper!

Sounds like your body is going to feel really fantastic soon. Well, for the first little while you actually feel pretty rough while your body heals and cleanses itself...but after that you will  feel fantastic! You have lots to look forward to.

How are you feeling today?

Hi Dan,

I also used the parch, and anything else I saw that I thought would help.     I agree with everything Tim and Roses have said.

Yes, indeed you will have to get to know the new you as 'normal'.  It is quite a revelation to find out what you are really like.  I certainly used cigarettes as an emotional crutch, so it was not only the addiction, but the habit ones which proved difficult.  You are just at the start of a new life of freedom.  Stay strong and keep using your coping strategies...you will need them!

Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!!!

Love Lolly.

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the SSC, one of the BEST stop smoking sites on the internet in my opinion. How has day 1 of being a non-smoker worked out for you? I too quit with the help of the patch. Couldn't wear it at night though, it gave me some really weird dreams. I couldn't believe how easy it was actually. It sounds like you have the right mind set, that you CAN DO this, and after the first few days, you're going to start grinning more because you KNOW that you CAN DO this!  Get ready for some changes though, like feeling light headed, being distracted easily, mild headaches. It will all go away soon as your body adjusts to living without nicotine. Don't forget to reward yourself for your great accomplishments too.
Be sure and check out the forums on here, and try to learn as much as you can. It will make it easier for you once you know what to expect. I can't wish you good luck in your quit, luck has nothing to do with it. It's all determination on your part. Hang in there buddy you CAN DO this...

New here. Finding this site EXTREMELY helpful, so thought I would introduce myself. I'm Dan. Smoked since I was 14. 35 now. Two packs a day seemed to be my baseline. I've become very financially motivated these last couple of years. Going through my bank statements I finally got the nerve to add up the actual cost of smoking. for me, it lands around $440.00 per month. Way, WAY too much. This was the last straw for me. I already have a hard time breathing sometimes. Cough so much that I get lightheaded too sometimes. Chain smoked a lot of times on top of that. I honestly believe that my happiness, finances and general well being are all on the line here. As well as my families well being too. It's been only a day, but I have had to use a LOT of coping skills already. I am using a nicotine patch as well. I ranked a 10 on the introductory test of nicotine dependence. The one coping skill that has helped me the most is putting the thought in my head that my body doesn't recognize how I am feeling as normal. That it's my body needing to adjust. That I will feel better soon. I don't know why such a simple thought helps so much... but it does. It seems to give me a perspective that I can hold onto and make sense out of everything with. Anyways, nice to be here. Dan
