Glad you've decided to quit - I quit (for the 12th time) 14 days ago.  It's easier this time and I quit cold turkey.
Hang in there, we all know what it's like.  ONE DAY AT A TIME.  We all have the same goal - to quit and to stay quit and we need to encourage one another and help as much as we can from our experiences and beneficial tips.

Your time will come, and you have time now to prepare. Take Rock's advice and go talk with someone about alternative NRT's there is so many to choose from maybe you just didn't find the right one.
I used the patch programme and found it worked  for me. It doesn't matter what you use, we all have the same goal in mind. So, we look forward to hearing how you're doing when you're ready.

Diana, dust yourself off and let's get you prepared as you approach your quit date.  Have you gone through "my program"?  There is a wealth of information there.  And you can design your quit plan.  So when things get tough, you have a plan in place.  Maybe reach out to a medical professional or pharmacist for advice on NRTs if what you used weren't helping.  I went cold turkey when I quit, so I know the first couple days are tough.  Stay close, and let us know how you are doing as you approach 5/3/2010!

Thanks for the supportive words, but alas after 3 days, I fell of the wagon...I was using NRT losengers, but they weren't helping very much :0(    My withdrawl symptoms were the worst I have ever had them, which I was not prepared for.  I have reset my quit date, because I would truly like to be free of this nasty addiction!

Diana, welcome to the SSC and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking.  How are things going today?  Hopefully your body is getting adjusted to not smoking.  They call the first 7 days Hell Week, so its truth in advertising.  Just remember that any temporary inconveniences of quitting smoking will yield HUGE permanent improvements!  Go through "my program" so you have a quit plan in place.  Reward yourself as much as possible as you've earned it!  Stay close to this site, read as much as you can, and post as often as needed, if only to rant and rave!  We're all rooting for your success!

Hi deeliteful! I read your post earlier today but had to run out the door. Not responding right away has given me a chance to think out my response some. You know, sleep is a good way to get through cravings. If you're having a bad day, it is okay to take a relaxing bath, treat yourself, and go to bed.
I had quit for three years a long time ago and started back, too. I let stress get to me. The first time it did, I ate and gained a lot of weight, but I did lose it all. The second time I got stressed out, I chose to smoke. Wrong choice. It was easier to lose the weight. I smoked for nearly twenty years before I was able to quit again. Welcome.

Hi deeliteful,

Welcome to our online support community and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking.

We strongly encourage you to prepare for your quit using the program. Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

Start reading through the forums, you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers. You'll also be able to find a lot of tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Keep working hard and check in soon!

Hello, My name is Diana & I'm 42.  I quit Monday night after smoking just over a year after six years smoke free, I have smoked 16 years all together.  I started again because of anxiety that is gone now due to medication.  I'm using NRT losengers and yesterday was HELL.  I went to bed at 9pm and cried myself to sleep.  I don't remember other occasions of quitting being as bad as now, but today is a little better.  Twice before I was pregnant when I quit smoking, so I had a great motivator, but alas, my child bearing days are over.  The other time, I went to a support group at the lung association, which was quite helpful.  I know I can quit, but I have a problem staying quit forever.  I hope this website will help me out.
My Mileage:

My Quit Date: 4/20/2010
Smoke-Free Days: 1
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10
Amount Saved: $3.70
Life Gained:
