New here, have I chosen a terrible time to quit?

Welcome Serenty!

Any day, any season you pick to quit has its ups and downs. So--if you feel ready--just go for it. Take deep breaths & take just one minute, one hour, one day at a time. You CAN do this! Look through the old threads --there is so much wisdom and hope that this is a win-able battle.

And one more thing--the battle does get easier as time goes on. There are also unlimited benefits--it is very empowering to beat the nico- demon.

Whatever day you decide to quit the SSC support group will be here to cheer you on!

Hi and welcome! I dont think there is ever a 'right' time-of course the holiday season may be tougher than most as we all want to have a good time but if you feel this is the time then you should take it.
I quit on a Saturday and like you I wondered if a weekend was not a great time to do it as I was worried about filling those days without the help of cigarettes.  But you know my need to quit was stronger than my need to smoke- and although changing habits and routines was difficult in the early days, it soon became the new routine.
Look at it this way too, by New Years you'll be almost through Hell and Heck weeks and ready start a new year as a non smoker- what better holiday present could you give yourself than a healthier ( and wealthier) new year?
Good Luck, we'll support you whatever date you choose.

It's easy to put off quitting because this or that is going on etc.  I've done that many times.  This time, i like you felt it was just time for me to quit.  I actually had quit on the 5th.  Then my sis in law passed away on the 5th, and i started smoking again that day.  I woke up on 6th and decided that I was still going to quit, because everyday brings about its own challenges. If you look hard enough you can find something wrong with any day to quit. Happy to be smoke free!!!  Good luck with your quit.

No time is a terrible time to quit in my opinion - it's all in how you look at it.  If you think of it as a scary sacrifice during a holiday celebration, it will be more difficult for you.  But if you think of it as the greatest gift you are giving yourself and your loved ones who will have you in their lives longer for the positive healthy change you are making ...then hip hip hooray have a happy holiday

Goofy's right about the ice water. It makes you feel full and loosens mucus.

Hey Serenity!!

You've already gotten some great advice. The biggest advantage to quitting around the holidays, is the excitement that let's you  focus on things other than smoking. I found that iced water was my biggest help. Now is the time to get to it!

You can do this and once you get past "hell week", our 1st week, you can move on to a smoke free life. Believe me.....it's worth it!!

I'd also set up your quit meter - it's so much fun to see those numbers change as the days go by!

N.O.P.E. = Not One Puff Ever

Remind yourself of that every day.  You can't take just one puff or the nicodemon will get back in.  He's a strong bugger and we have to fight him every minute of every day but as the days go by, the fight gets easier and easier.  The stronger you are, the weaker he becomes.

Keep up the good work and don't give your quit away for anyone or any thing!!
