Hi Carrie, the first three days are the worst. It does get better after that. Use your tolls for coping with cravings, such as cold water, deep breathing, candy, straws whatever you have on hand. Sleep lots, you need to rid your body of the drugs and toxins. It will get better. Read everything you can here as there are a lot of helpful folks here to help. We all went through it, so we know thats it tough, but it is also very doable and you can do it!

Hi Carrie,

I made my slip in April as well but you are ahead of me in resuming your quit.

Is your son old enough to provide moral support?  If so, recruit him - if he's mature enough to understand, it will provide a great learning experience for him and a bolster for you.  Remember also that you need your breath to keep up with him on your hikes.

Keep fighting - you'll make it!

Ice water, get away from the situation.  Chew gum.  The cravings will go away.  Keep strong Carrie, you have had practice and you are doing fantastic.   The first few days are tough and seem like they go on forever.  You can beat this... kick those cravings in the ash!

Carrie,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing some difficult cravings. One of the hardest things about cravings is that they are unpredictable. Often there are no reasons behind them- we just experience them and they can be hard to ignore!

You did the right thing by posting here instead of reaching for those butts. Way to go!

Members have suggested a number of tips for you to try when the cravings hit. Are there any of these that you would like to try out right now? Maybe going for a quick walk, chewing on some ice chips, or even trying some deep breathing techniques would be helpful!

Stay close to the boards Carrie and let us know how you are doing.

Worst cravings yet.  Wonder what the problem is.  Can't really see any reason for them to be so bad right now.

Hmmm, better go get rid of those butts that have been sitting out in my ashtray!!!  They are looking good!

Here we go...day 3!!!
\So far pretty good.  Had a few major craves last night, but they went away as soon as I remembered that I'm not smoking anymore.  They were more like a habitual instinct, but as soon as I remembered, no problem.

Read a lot, went to bed early as many of you suggested.  SHOPPED (my little reward to myself) :)

I think my Vit D helps a lot with the anxiety, and the B Complex in this juice I"m drinking seemed to help the sluggishness a lot yesterday.  Also, getting up and walking around a bit outside was helping (I work from home which makes it nice!).

Thanks for all the great advice and support you co-ex-smoker friends o' mine!!!!

Carrie,

Just adding a welcome and a congratulations on great incentive!

Setting an example for a child is a great gift to you and your child.

Have you planned your rewards as well?
Don't forget your money jar, the hiking will be the first of many trips you will be able to take!

Carrie, you've been given some great advice!  If you can, try to get to bed early every night this week so you are well rested.  Just remember that when you smoked, you would "take a break" everytime you smoked.  I suggest that you get up at work, walk around, get some fresh air, a quick walk across the office, a change of scenery.  You've got a great quit going!
