Hi Carrie.  Welcome to SSC.  You'll find an amazing support network here.  I remember being scared and sad when I quit as well.  When I joined SSC, everybody elses stats looked overwhelming, and I remember thinking "how will I ever get close to those numbers"?  Well, between my friends here, and a lot of will and determination, I did it.  One crave, one day at a time.  Read everything you can here - there's a wealth of information that will help enable you to beat this addiction.  It may not be easy, but it's certainly doable.  Promise yourself that if you feel you're going to cave and give in, come on here and post for help.  Wait for at least 5 responses, and by that time your crave will have passed, or someone will have talked you through it.  Trust me, it works.  Best wishes - stay close and let us help you out.

hi carrie
i wish you the very best and we're all here to help.
first i would get a tablet and write down the pros and cons of smoking.
try to think of everything and put it on paper. once you've decided you really want to quit , make some copies of the cons of smoking and put that list where you can see it for a while.
understand , that this will be hard , real hard , but you can do it and it is so worth it.
your health , finances , etc will improve , and you'll feel great about yourself.
because let's face , if we smoke we are wierdos these days. hard to admit but it's true.
drink lots of ice cold water , practice deep breathing when the cravings occur. keep a lot of healthy snack around , i used a lot of small carrots because i could hold them like cigarettes.

it's really nice to have you on our team , you can win at this !

Congrats on the decision to quit smoking, this is the best thing you could ever do for yourself!  You said that you were sad about quitting... I was sad and scared.  This is normal.  I felt like I was going to be missing something...  that is the addiction talking, when you quit you gain so much!  The program here helped me alot.  Also, write down your reasons for quitting... keep them with you and when things get rough pull it out and read it...  This site was a key in my quit... everyone here can relate to what you are going through and they are all here to cheer you on!!!  I also quit for my health.. that can be a very good motivater!!!  Nice to meet you and welcome to SSC!

Hi and welcome carrie

Read through My Program, it has lots of good advice and will help you plan your Quit.
The sadness is the addict making you think you'll be better off smoking.  That mental battle goes on with your addict.
The first week we call Hell week and that's where you get the drug out of your system....lots of fluids..ice water. juices, gatorade.....rest and rewarding yourself for each crave you beat.  Make the Quit about YOU and treat yourself great....you are doing a wonderful thing.
When you feel you NEED too bad.....Post here and wait for 5 replies.....that will get you through.  Post and rant and yell as you need, we all did it.  READ, READ, READ.....you'll see you aren't alone and learn.  Knowledge in this is power.
You CAN do this......we'll help......

huggggg
Bob

Hi Carrie.

You've made a very significant first step!!!!  This site can be very valuable to you as you prepare to quit.  Go through "My Program" and prepare your MIND for this journey.

Giving it a 'try' will most likely not be successful.  You must prepare your mind and soul for the fight, as the addiction will want to win.

You will find tons of supportive people here to help.  What has made it work for me is that everyone here has faced the same challenges and can shed first-hand support.

Go for it!  You deserve it.
