Hi, Free spirit and welcome to the site.  You and msreader should buddy-up since you joined the SSC within hours of each other. Either way, you come in in here as often as you want to seek help and support.  Read through the programme and read deeply through the archives... have you checked to see if there's anyone online in the IM when you log-in?   Lots of members help each other by live chatting during a crisis...

Freespirit - I agree that a pub with friends and alcohol would be a huge temptation.  It would be too much for me to stand.  I'm a bit nervous about having a drink in my own home tonight because I know the craving will be massive.  Luckily, unless I cab it, I can't run out to get a pack.  Don't set yourself up for failure.  Try to stay away from the pit fall places until you get stronger and more sure of your response.

Good luck to you!  I'm new too.  Not much I wouldn't do for a cigarette right now (just got through eating), but I'm here typing instead.  You're not alone.

Hey Freespirit,

I'm glad you found this place--the people here are awesome.

I too lost a 5 year quit and a two year stint. Amazing, isn't it, how this addiction can keep a hold on you for years after you've put them down?

Stay connected to the site and be honest. Of all my quit aids this place ranks number one.

Would your husband support avoiding the bar for a bit while you get a good solid quit under your belt? It sounds like that's your number one trigger, so you want to be strong before you go back there. Maybe some BBQs with friends at home for a month or two until you get your feet solidly planted?

K. I'm trying again quitting.   Have been smoking since I was 16 and stopped for 5 years about 14 years ago.  And then we moved and I started up again in our new location..   During the last 14 years we have lived here I have stopped about 4 additional times for periods of 2-16 weeks.

So here I am again giving it another shot.   The times I have quit have not been excessively hard on me, but I realize the only times I have given in is when I am having a drink or two.   Since we live in a small town and in the sticks going out to the local pub is basically our only activity that husband and myself do together on a social level.

So I know this is when it is going to be the hardest for me and that is the only times I have relapsed before.  Will try the deep breathing, go outside and go for a quick walk etc. when I feel the urge this time.

Wish me luck.
