Tomorrow's the day!

Hi Jim, Sounds like a good day so far! Not sure where you are but, here in NC the temp is going up to 70 and it is absolutely beautiful. A great day to go outside and breath in the fresh air. Taking deep cleansing breaths to fight the cravings was a really big help for me. That and lots of cold water! Just take it one minute at a time for now and soon, you'll be racking up those days on your quit meter. I just loved your story of how you and your wife said farwell to the family killers!LOL! Now, use that "crush and destroy" technique on the junkie!! Take care and stay tough, you can do it! Wellllll, since you asked, here's the skinny! I made it through till just before midnight and smoked my LAST butt!!! I had 2 left in the pack, gave one to my wife, I took the other and on the count of 3 we both crushed and destroyed those damn family killers!!! I'm sure glad that I found this site last week after I had made my decision to quit!!! I got through all of the milestones just in time and started in on this forum to suck the support out of everyone here!!! :eg: So, how about this morning you ask? It hasn't been too bad so far and I guess that I have to really thank the Chantix for that! Every other time that I tried to quit, the cravings hit me early and hit me strong!!! The craving I usually got seemed like my abdomen just starts to knot up or tighten! I have a little bit of that now and have most of the morning, but it is milder now than it has ever been! I am coping pretty well, but I can't seem to think about anything else except that I have to fight the demon!!! It's really more of a mental thing for me right now, I think. It helps keeping busy to keep my mind off the quit, but between the jobs when I check the computer I start thinking about it all over again! Maybe getting on the computer is one of my triggers that I didn't think about!!?? Anyways, getting on here and looking at all of your support is what I really think will get me through this! I don't have too many people to talk to throughout the working day, so this outlet really helps!!! I checked a few other threads this morning and read comments from a few, what I consider to be long-time non-smokers. Hard to believe that demon can re-appear after months!!! I guess I might be with y'all for some time to come!!! Well, all for now. Time for lunch! Mrs Nick, try putting a positive spin on smelling smoke on your clothes. I did not wash mine before the quit either, but the smell of it made me sick! Literally ill!!! Try to re-enforce the smoking stinks in your mind, try your best to associate that smell with anything that is NASTY to you....trick your mind into thinking how horrible it is (and believe me, you will soon recognize that it IS the truth, smoking smells horrible to non smomkers) and always remember PMA~~~POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE..it'll get you thru the quit, I promise! Cigarettes Not Smoked

HI, I spent last night washing all my clothing and getting rid of any traces of smoke. I find that I can smell the smoke on my jackets and shoes and it trigers me. I wish I would of realized this before my quit day so that I could have made sure I had done it before I quit. I did get it done. I had to get real mad 1st and than I let my stubborn side take over. I was swering and crying. I hubbie asked if I was OK. I can laugh at it now but it was hard. My piont is that we will have hard spots in our quits but if we reach inside and get stubborn it helps. I read a message in hear that helped me. I can't remember witch one it was but it was abought not whining and getting mad at smoking. It made since to me and last night it is what pulled me through. I am not saying that it is ok to get mad at other people that is never OK. When I get cranking I take time away from others and come on hear and read. I try to remind my self that I can not unring a bell. Well I am rambeling on and I need to start working. I hope every one has a great day and I am going to try and have one my self. Welcome Jim, Anne and Deb! I can't count the number of times I have tried to quit in the past. I know it's going to work this time because I have this web-site. I think in the past it's been easier to say, "Well, one won't matter"; "Who's going to know". The SSC is not the "no smoking police" but it does seem to make you more accountable to yourself. Use it. Welcome Jim!!!! And congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. This site will give you loads of help. All you have to do is post. It's open 24/7! I understand your feelings about quitting. I think we've all been through them. But in all honesty, I have found that the thought of quitting can be more daunting that the actual quit itself. One day at a time and you CAN do this!!!! Cheers, Jan :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 925 Amount Saved: $314.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 7 Mins: 17 Seconds: 1

Hi Jim and Anne. I am on Chantix also. Iam on day 23 so.. still pretty new here. This place is full of warm, caring people and great advice. I tried quitting before.. and I read on the internet that it usually take several quits to be successful. The morning I started my Quit.. my mother in law was diagnosed with lung cancer. What has helped me: The postings and replies, making friends here. Saying I QUIT.. and not I am "trying" to quit. Be committed to the quit. COLD bottles of water.. I feel I have drunk enough water to fill a small pond. but it does help.. and it helps to detoxify your body... and helps to fill you up so you odnt eat everything in sight. Coming here to read or post when I get a craving (if possible) when I got a strong craving.. say well in 5 or 10 minutes.. it will be gone by then. I had to admit to myslef I am a Nicotine addict... the nicotine is controlling me.. so like any other addict. N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) there is NO such thing as One... remember to reward yourself.. it doesn't have to be costly.. do it often the first couple weeks. even if it is taking time to sit and listen to a song. a bubble bath .. a favorite dinner. picking up a magazine or book.. ( you treated a cigarette like a reward.. so now reward yourself for NOT amoking) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 391 Amount Saved: $61.58 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 46 Seconds: 25
