Oh Martha, you are far from being mean. You are stating out loud that which many of us were thinking. Yes, mindset is half this battle. Otherwise, the junkie will talk you right back into smoking before you even give yourself a chance to quit. I must really agree with Martha on this. Mindset is of the utmost importance and if you believe it will be hard it will be and vice-versa. You have a lot of experienced quitters here and many of us can tell you that even from one quit to another it is not always the same, what remains the same is the absolute necessity to stick to your quit. Good luck My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/6/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,015 Amount Saved: $377.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 1 Mins: 34 Seconds: 51

Self talk will definitely influence a persons decisions in life. I agree with that. I also know that everyone looks at and interprets things in a different way! I appreciate everything that is said on here in response to my postings and others postings. No worries here. Thanks Terry

This may not be appreciated but I have to respectfully take exception with two statements posted here: Seems easy for some people but I'm sure it's not. It's just them and not me. Self-talk is a BIG part of what will shape your attitude about quitting. By saying, "I'm sure it's not [easy]" you may be talking yourself into making it harder than it needs to be. If possible, try to take each day as it comes without expectation. I don't thing it's easy for anyone really. They have done it already. We have done it already and are offering the best advice based on getting through those first hard days ourselves. That doesn't mean that we didn't have to work at it too but we lived to tell the story. There are a lot of people that will tell you they wished they had quit sooner because it wasn't as hard as they thought or as other people told them. Again, it was that expectation that made it harder. I'm sorry if this somehow seems harsh or unsympathetic but having seen a number of folks come and go from this site, you learn a few things. Attitude and frame of mind cannot be downplayed. It does wonders for your success in quitting smoking and life! It may seem overly simple or not worth the effort but in my experience that is not the case. Terry - my heart goes out to you during this stressful and emotional time and I want nothing but success for you in this quit. DJ - you can do this just as much as any of us, we all got here one day at a time. All the best, Mean Martha :P My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1278 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,560 Amount Saved: $5,751.00 Life Gained: Days: 99 Hrs: 15 Mins: 13 Seconds: 23

I think that sadness will come and go for a while. Don't hide it with a cig, okay? My son went with them this morning to get that planned, so I'm not sure yet. I'll check out the book but I won't get it from a Library. I love books. I'll buy it and read it and keep it. Thanks for asking about Shane. I am so sad again today. I was pretty busy this weekend with my son and doing some stuff for the family that I really didn't have much time to be sad.

Terry, That book by Allen Carr really is a good one. Have you read it? If not, maybe see if your library has it? What Bear said about being conscious about each cigarette you smoke is a good idea. See if you can delay it. If not, really look at what happened right before you wanted to smoke, so you'll be aware of your triggers. Of course, I'm sure you know that you are craving throughout each day because you keep putting nicotine and the other stuff in your body each time you smoke. Once you stop doing that the physcial craving will disappear within days or weeks. When are the services for Shane?
