Hi everyone I am taking chantix. I am on my forth day of quitting. About my 10 day on Chantix. I am still having alot of withdraw even on this. But like i say i was a chain smoker for 33yrs. So it might take longer for me. Hey Charel, great job on 26 days! I used Chantix for my quit, as well. It really helped. I did try Chantix on a previous quit and went off of it after a month and slipped shortly thereafter. Like Aloha said, you have to be prepared if you choose to do that...and I wasn't. So the next time I tried, I decided to go ahead and do the full dosage of Chantix: the cost, the inconvenience, the weird dreams, the gas (pardon me) were all worth it if I could actually kick this thing. Anyway, I took it for a little over two months and, since I wasn't even thinking about smoking or cravings or any of that stuff any more, I forgot to take it for a couple of days. I took that as a positive sign and stopped for good. No hitches whatsoever. I WAS prepared that time, by the way, to use the many tools I'd learned to keep from slippage. But the cravings were considerably less intense than after only a month and stopping. Only you can decide if you're ready to go off of the drug. But the bottom line of my advice is that you take the extra measures to protect your quit. It's worth it. YOU're worth it. I hope I've made sense here and I know you'll find lots of fantastic advice here. Good luck...but don't rely on luck. --Shakes My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 227 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,540 Amount Saved: $2,043.00 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 11 Mins: 59 Seconds: 36

Good for you, Charel!!!! Sounds like you have this beat so far. I'm going to bump up a thread for you called Weaning off chantix/Halfing the dosage. Some people have successfully stopped the chantix after a few weeks or a month. Just make sure it doesn't jeopardize your quit. Some of us have experieinced increased cravings or urges for a few days after going off it. As long as you're prepared for that, you should be fine. I have been on Chantix for a month now. I stopped taking it and havent had a cig for 26 days :) I have another refill if I need it but I just want to see how I go without it. Has anyone stopped after just a month of it??? Just want to hear how other people on thisare doing! I definitely recommend it to someone who wants to quit!!!!! It takes away most of the cravings:)
