Great idea on writing a letter to end your relationship. It will be a "Dear John" that you will never regret and that did not come too soon. I am also new to this site and not smoking and have found that this site is amazing and everyone here is absolutely supportive and willing to help in any way! I want to congratulate you on your success and remember that it only gets easier from here. I found Allen Carr's books very helpful. We are similar in age and it helps knowing that there is someone out there that is like me or is going through the same thing. Remember to post, reward and not smoke! Congrats again, and don't worry your habit is not missing you so no point in missing it. Off to buy some new shoes/boots with the money I saved already! Keep me posted! Hi Charel! Hello and welcome to the site! I'm Mister Ed and just another Quitter like you. And like you I thought 'Can I really do this?' Well, the answer is a resounding YES and it's the best thing that I've ever done. This site has helped so many of us stay quit. There are all different kinds of people here: people who have thousands of posts to their names, the people who seem to just want to help others, some who just want to observe and maybe learn from what they read and those who just like shouting 'HELP!' from time to time. Use this site as you want, access the Quit Program Tools on the left of the screen, talk one to one with others using Internet Messenger and the Moderators are always there to help as well. In addition, I produce a daily list of those quitters who are celebrating, say 1 week, 1 month, 50 days 1 year and so on. If you want to be part of this, simply send a post to the Daily Quitters thread.. There is also a 'Friends of SSC' group on FaceBook. A number of us set this up as a way of thanking the SSC for their good work. It is primarily a way of advertising the site to the outside world, but also a load of fun, if you want to join. We're not allowed to put email addresses in posts, but check it out! Welcome again and I'm sure you will enjoy a winning quit!! Welcome Chare, Today is day 21 for me. I'm glad you decided to join us on our quest for smoke-free lives. I smoked for 35 years, and this by far is the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. The people on this site are really special, and if you follow along with each persons' quit, you'll be better off. The two people that I feel have helped me the most, had quit within 12 hours of when I did. I think it was not wanting to let them down more than myself. Sprquits, and One more try... Thanks, made it through another weekend. Hang tough Chare, and don't let yourself even have 1. Hello I am new to the group as of today. I am 27 and have been smoking for 9 years. (pack a day) I have been smoke free for 25 days now thanks to my will power and Chantix. I am not taking Chantix anymore b/c it is very expensive and made my tummy hurt often. So unless the cravings get bad I will refill it. I just wanted to introduce myself and say good bye to my cigs for good. (this makes me feel better): Dear cigs, You have been in my life for 9 years. You were there for me when I was sad, mad, angry, happy, wanting to socialize, when I was drunk and just when I was relaxing daily. I really liked you when I was on the phone talking to my friends. And you were a lot of fun when I went out drinking. However it is time to end my friendship with you because you weren't much of a friend. You cost me a lot of money, made me stink, helped me develop asthma, contributed to my recurring bronchitis & allergies, gave me pimples often (my opinion), not allowed me to excercise well and isolated me from certain situations and places. I simply cannot ever be around you again. You are worse than any other drug out there and shame on all the tobacco companies for making you so darn addictive. Don't get me wrong I will miss you. But I am being strong this time and do not ever want you in my life again. I want to LIVE-so goodbye!!! That makes me feel better :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 500 Amount Saved: $95.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 12 Seconds: 27
