Should I go to the patch?

17 years ago 0 96 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
A big part of me misses smoking. I cant say the same for the patch. The patch helped me with my initial quit but I hated it. The rashes, dreams, dizziness ect... the patch isnt the way you want to go. 1 Thing I use and has helped many feiends are theese tea tree chewing sticks. They are found in all naturaul health stores. They are essentially chewable toothpicks dipped in all naturaul tea tree oil...which is like a minty menthol. They make your breath smell good and give your gums a little tingle. They are totally safe and good for you too! Good luck. kiwi, you are right and a very wise person. I'm thankful that I'm cig free and have been for 280 days and counting. Not nic free, but cig free and you know, right now, it's the best I can do. The problem is that in your mind, you are'nt ready to stop smoking & never where. You feel you quit cos you had to & not because you want to. You have to want to stop smoking more than life itself & i mean that. This alone, along with knowledge is the only way ANYONE will stay quit - the rest is history. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Danielle, I appreciate everything that everyone one has said. But I failed anyway. I guess I just wasn't ready. Six days felt a lot like an eternity without absolutely no let up from probably the worst cravings I have had since day one. And, to make matters even worse, I'm very near the fire areas in California. Not near enough to see flames but close enough to have the air full of particulates. I've got the ugly cough back, with the ugly phlegm. I know I can't smoke, not ever. This is just a nasty reminder. I'm a stubborn cuss and when I get a bee in my bonnet, it doesn't go away until I win, and I always win ultimately. Now is just not the time. Tryagain, Strongly encouraging you to stick with this. Remember nicotine in any form boosts your mood and your emotions will adjust with time. Why go back? You've got six days nicotine free already! Keep trying instead to find new outlets for your anger. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Doodles, I've got 75 cents in my doctor jar. It gets bigger every day, I was at 35 cents a couple of days ago. When it gets to $300.00 I'll be able to see a dr. Still can't fill a prescription but I'll have a dr. give me one. Someone here mentioned the money I was saving on not buying cigs. It started me thinking because there isn't any! It had to go somewhere, I certainly had some when I first quit! I bought stuff. After watching what I'm doing I realize that I spent almost ten bucks a day on chewing gum, bubble gum, all kinds of sugar free gum. It has lacertated and irritated the inside of my mouth, and caused two teeth to break. Aside from the Dr. jar, I need a dentist jar too! When I first quit and went to the nic gum, I was spending so much on cigarettes that the decrease was noticable. I saw a big windfall. I really did use the nic gum less than regular gum, and used regular gum to limit the use of the nic gum. Without the nic gum, it is unsatisfying sugar free endlessly, with a clicking in my jaw. Still use it, painful, no worry. I will do anything to put those cravings at bay, anything. It's just that nothing works. NRT doesn't stop them, just reduces them to being annoying. I'm clearly going to have to do something because it has gone beyond sitting around grinding my teeth because I want a smoke. Someone asked me what I thought I'd gain if I did smoke. Nothing. Absolutely nothing, my cough would be back right away, I'd smell like the people who smoke smell and all the rest. What I want is not to smoke, but relief of the desire to smoke! That's not happening in 280 days without cigs and now six days without nic at all. What is happening is that I'm more than edgy, I've gone beyond sitting around getting angry. Yesterday at the laundrymat some woman started a fight with me. This is not uncommon. This happens all the time but normally I deal with it differently. Yesterday I egged her on and taunted her until she attacked, then I unloaded all over her. It was an incredible relief for about ten minutes. All the anger and rage poured out all over her. I assume she had no idea that the 61 year old woman she meant to beat up was capable of what she got. The business owner broke it up. I think I'm going to go back at least to the mildest gum. I'm not ready to go completely nic free yet. Wish I could see everyone craving's graphs - I used thrive lozenges when I stopped for a week. Went off the lozenges right after that, so it has been 12 days of cold turkey, and 20 days total. Just like they say, It is 72 hours physically, so I say, don't go on the patch. Things will calm down. Use the smokers help line and talk to one of them. Anytime you get mad, and you want to blow off steam, call them and blow off all of the steam you want. They know it is going to happen, and they want you to yell at them instead of our own family. Yell here all you want too. People are great here. Blow off all of the steam, here or call the line, but don't go on patch, you can do this and it will get better. Tryagain, Your body is still experiencing withdrawal syptoms. Even though you quit smoking a while ago it sounds like your body has always had some source of nicotine. It will take some time to get out of your body and for you to adjust to life without it. When you are feeling urges or rage try to use the same coping methods that you used to help stop smoking. Also, remember that you need to reward yourself for all of the hard work you put in, so whether it be buying a magazine or going for a walk it is really important that you realize your accomplishments.
