EKG?

Jeff, I take the lexapro with Xanax. Let me tell you that the Xanax can cause a bit of heartburn....so thus your chest sometimes will hurt. I learned that after awhile of being on it. Try some milk or bread with it and also, you will get rid of the panic faster if you let the Xanax disolve under your tounge. The lexapro is a great medication and it tends to work much fast than others. the Xanax is your security blanket for the attacks.

Jeff, please keep posting how it is going with the Lexapro. I will be going to see a psychiatrist within the next week or two - as soon as she has anopening - and I was going to ask for that med as my brother is on it. But, I'm very nervous about meds and need to hear constant encouragement that it does something. Hope you can enjoy some of the weekend. Rachele

Thanks for the responses! After the last Urgent Care visit I called my regular Dr. and asked if I could still take a Zanax (.25)with the Lexapro. I forgot to ask when she put me on it, and the answer was of course yes. Currently in day 5 of the Lexapro, took a Zanax after the Urgent Care visit in day 3 and calmed down a bit. No panic attacks yesterday in Day 4, but some more chest pains came back late at night after the Zanax wore off. Went to bed with some anxiety and of course woke up today with the first thought being my chest. Then the mind wonders. Hoping that the Lexapro will continue to build up success. Haven't taken a Zanax yet today (even though it's early) and the chest pains seem to have subsided for the moment. Hoping for a good day! Thanks again for the responses.

Jeff, I have never had an EKG done but I did let them do a colonoscopy on me. LOL. No kidding. Whenever I get panic I get abdominal and pelvic pain.... bad. I feel nauseous and get diarrhea. I would SWEAR up and down, on my family's lives that I am having appendicitis or gall bladder or something!!!! Hence I once went to a gastroenterologis and allowed this test to be done. Needless to say in all the million tests they did Nothing is wrong.... except I have panic. Rachele

Jeff, I can so relate to this. If I told you the number of them that I had in a 3 month period you would laugh. The thing is, you just can't let yourself go there. When my chest starts hurting I immediately change my area. A shower, a walk, a phone call to a friend. Whatever it takes. I like you, thought...well, they can't see a blockage....but they can't see a brain tumor either when your head is killing you. You can dwell on it forever or learn to find a coping skill. I just say out loud "NO! I am fine!" of course, my disclaimer here is: That does not always work.

Jeff, you already went to the Doctor and had two EKG's, so you should know that it is your anxiety. Just KNOWING and really BELIEVING the Doctors will help you in this situation. I can only say this because I have been there, was there today actually!! My chest hurts lately. The reason you don't believe the Doctors is because you really feel pain. And they are saying nothing is wrong with you. That doesn't make sense to us!! Did you know you can get a fever from anxiety? Did you know you can get diahrea? Trust me when I say, the ER in my town knows me well. This disorder disguises itself in so many forms of "illness" and when we go to the doctors they find nothing wrong. The only suggestions I can say to you are to try some relaxation excersizes, breathing excersizes, and to do something that YOU like to do or that you find enjoyable. When the anxiety level drops, the chest pains will subside. In my case, I ask my daughter to massage my back, it helps, and I usually try to do something that I enjoy, like a 1500 piece puzzle. It stops my mind from spinning with worry, and gets my focus on something else. The other thing I had to realize was that I MUST TRUST MY DOCTOR!! Believe it and Best wishes!! Jennifer

August was a bad anxiety month for me. Started with a panic attack and a trip to the Urgent Care where I got a thumbs up EKG. Waiting for an appt. with my normal Dr., my typical chest pains were still present so I went to another Urgent Care (2 weeks later). Got another EKG and another all clear. Finally met with my Dr. who just put me on Lexapro (day 3). Had medium panic attacks yesterday and today with the chest pains again. Got nervous and went to the first Urgent Care again tonight. This time they just listened to my heart and said it sounded fine, but said since I had an EKG a month ago, another would be a waste of time. I felt really embarrassed, especially because they don't know I had another one two weeks ago at a different center. I know an EKG can detect if you had or are having a heart attack, does it tell you if you are in dager of a future one?
