lavndr, welcome and congratulations on beginning your journey!
Yes, we have all experienced the shame of addiction, so you are not alone. Why is it that we chose smoking to try to end our stress? We could have chosen alcohol, xanax, overeating, oversleeping, but for some reason we turned to cigarettes. We are addicts and we have finally woken up and seen that cigarettes are a false god that kill us while pretending to be our friend. I think we begin by seeing our addiction clearly. And then we think about it a lot and perhaps begin by delaying each smoke a little longer and a little longer. And at some point, we actually say "I'm just not going to hurt myself anymore. I'm putting this junkie life down and picking up my new life."
It can be done. Lots have succeeded and you can, too.
Rusty :)
