it's easy when you say it like this

i smoke around 20 cigarettes a day. it takes roughly 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette. so that is 100 minutes, or 1 hour and 40 minutes of constant smoking per day. which translates as 22 hours and 20 minutes a day of NOT smoking. I already don't smoke for 22 hours and 20 minutes out of the day, so increasing that time to 24 hours can't be that hard, surely?! except i am sure it will be extremely hard. but i'll keep thinking of that little nugget when i feel a weak moment coming on. sarah

sarah you're absolutely right about all that you are saving from quiting. Also by keeping your brain active you are protecting it from the sneaky messages of nicoderm. You're even making my anti math brain swim. But you know what I really think about when I think about the time involved with smoking? I think about the time I have stolen from my kids. The time it takes to go out back or leave a kids event for a few drags outside. Even when I'm just hanging out in the kitchen while they are playing upstairs or talking to the other parents at a birthday party or watching a sporting event - it all makes a huge difference. And also the times they expect me to get on the floor to make a castle or lie in bed and read them a bedtime story while smelling strongly of smoke that would make the ordinary person puke. I can't undo the images with which I have left them, the smell of smoke. I can however steal any future times of these occurrences and in so doing provide my children with the type of mother they deserve. That's what I think about any way. Good luck to you. What a wonderful point Sarah! The flip side to that is that OMG! We spent nearly 2 hours a day doing nothing but smoking!!! How many times have we said to ourselves, "I wish there were more minutes in the day!" Well, now there are! You have just given yourself 1 hour and 40 minutes each and every day! For some, that may cause boredom, which can make cravings more difficult, but if you find a hobby or something worthwile to spend that time doing, then it won't seem like nearly as much time. So, I encourage you to have fun finding ways to fill that 1 hour and 40 minutes. It will make that 22 hours and 20 minutes that you already don't smoke, so much more enjoyable as well! :) Welcome to the site! Crave the Quit! I really like that perspective - a "glass is more than half full outlook"! That type of thinking should help many.
