Is it hopeless????

21 years ago 0 148 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Realistically I know its not hopeless but right now I feel as if this relapse will never go away. I am really scared by it all. I hate waking up to having the feelings of anxiety smacking me in the face. I have three kids to care for and lately its been reversed where I need them home from school to care for me. I need this latest relapse to stop. I am near tears in frustration. =0(

Hi Heather, Herbal medicine is a great way to calm yourself. Just remember that it is medicine. Alot of doctor's refuse to take it seriously because they are just herbs, but the reason we are warned from taking them with other medicines is because they do actually work. They've actually been working for centuries. The same as allopathic medicines (Zanax, Paxil, Celexa) herbals may take time to show results. A really good and very common 'quick fix' for panic is Chammomile tea. Also, Celestial Seasonings sells a tea called Tension Tamer. which is an infusion of many lovely tastes and smells! The main ingredient is Eleuthero root and it also contains peppermint, chammomile and cinnamon! It's very soothing. In defense of Kavakava I don't think that there's proof that it alone will damage your liver. There have been minimal cases of Kava patients with liver damage, but they were also taking other medication which may have reacted badly to the Kava. You should consult with a doctor who understands herbal medicine before taking it. I've recommended in another post the benefits I've seen from seeing a naturopath. Naturopaths are highly qualified medical practioners who have equal training as Doctors. I'm not saying it works for everyone, but if you're unsatisfied with your current medical treatment, it's worth looking into.

Heather...You've done the right thing by getting a new doctor. Your old doctor must be crazy! I quit taking Xanax about 17 years ago. Quitting Xanax is very easy but it must be done VERY SLOWLY in order to not feel horrible like you're feeling now. However, I would suggest that since you found Xanax useful in your therapy program that you continue. Also, talk with your new doctor about any other drugs that might work even better than Xanax. I've taken Nardil (an MAOI) for seventeen years now and it changed my life. I felt like my "old self" again, almost no panic attacks and no severe depression. Nardil isn't for everyone but I just want you to know that there are many options available to you. My problem now is that Pfizer has somehow changed Nardil and it's no longer working for me or others that I've met on the web. Good luck to you! If your new doctor isn't helpful, then keep looking until you find the one that's right for you!!!

Sorry to hear about all of that, you definitely need a different doctor, yes benzo withdraw can be very bad, how much were you taking a day, that makes a huge difference. And you can get hooked on Xanax at a week, just depends on the amount you are taking and your body.

The pharmacist is the one who specializes in chemical interactions. Why not drop by and have him check it out?

THanks you guys. I do feel much better today. I still called off of work though, because I dont want to make a spectacle of myself ya know. The hives are gone, and I cannot wait to see my new doc. I know that Kava Kava can help, and I have some, but I hear it damages your liver pretty quickly. Ive been researching other herbs and people say that Passion Flower, and Lemon balm extract (a couple of drops in your water) Can "rescue" as well as any benzo, and do so within 5 minutes. I think Im going to try it, but does anyone know about how it will react with other meds that I may need to take???

Good lord, the doctor said for you to "stay drunk all the time?"... ditch this doctor, my friend. You don't want to grow dependent on alcohol. This will be a tough time for you because of the withdrawal symptoms, but try to relax and always remind yourself that you can't die from these symptoms, okay? If you have IM, my screen name is Webslinger516 if you need someone to chat with.

I just read about the hives after I posted. I ain't no doctor, but I've had hives a couple times and it was always from stress. They usually don't last long.

Heather, I'm sorry that you are having this problem. No, I really don't think you can die from it, but I'm sure it's plenty scary! You were right to get another doctor, it's important to have one that you feel comfortable with and one who doesn't brush aside your concerns and fears. I bet you'll feel better tomorrow, cause it's always like that. I feel so bad sometimes that I know I will never get over it, that it can't ever get any better. But guess what? Each time, to my amazement, it does get better! It will for you, too! Good luck with the new doc, I think that's a great move!
