Ask yourself who is in control, you or the cigs? Do you want to be free? You are the one in charge ! Don't let these temporary cravings fool you ! Good luck on your journey to a new life !

Thanks for the advise and I've done quite a bit of reading. I finally broke down and put on a patch. I tried to get some sleep and couldn't. Hopefully I can try again tomorrow without the patch. A friend of mine quit cold turkey and also suceeded in quiting. I haven't smoked and I'm really determined. I just feel really sick even thought I'm not. Again thanks for the support!!!

I had all intentions this morning to start out with a patch. This is my quit date, instead I decided to try it cold turkey to avoid the prolonged time of withdrawal. I can't think straight, I'm all emotional and don't know what to do with my hands. I haven't smoked but if I eat anymore carrots I'll turn into a rabbit. I could use some help here. Oh and my boyfriends moving out this weekend. What can I say I didn't want to change my quit date not for anyone!!!

Kayla, just hang in there, okay? You really need to drink lots and lots of water. I mean so much water that you slosh when you walk. ha ha The water helps with the cravings and flushes your system. Get yourself some sunflower seeds, a lot of different flavors of gum, hard candy, toothpicks, etc. for that hand to mouth thing. Twizzlers are great and you can get all of those things in sugar free. Light candles in your house to get rid of the smoke smell as much as you can. Stay busy when a craving comes like take a walk, wash your hair, clean something, come here and post or read, etc. You have to keep your mind busy as much as you can. Kayla, really work the workbook over to the left under Quit Program Tools. That workbook is great and will help you a lot. Stay close to us. We're here for you. Kayla, First of all, congrats on making it through your first day! That's definitely one of the hardest and you did it! Way to go! Second, it's not cheating to use the patch. Cold turkey isn't for everybody. Just because your friend was able to quit cold turkey and did fine doesn't mean you have to! The important thing is that you're not smoking! Whatever aid you use is fine! And if you do choose to use an aid, I suggest that you use it as long as recommended. It's there to help you learn how to cope with your triggers while still giving you a little help. It's not cheating so don't feel wrong or bad or less of a quitter because you are using an aid! You're doing a phenomenal thing by quitting smoking! Be proud of yourself for that!!! Crave the Quit! Kayla, This all part of withdrawals. Time to get up and get moving. Some physical activity like a brisk walk may help. When you get back find a quiet distraction and try to bring those stress levels down. You can do this. Just take it one hour at a time. Kayla, Here are a few tips to help with your sleeping disturbances: Try to get on a sleep schedule. Go to bed at a regular time each night and get up at a regular time in the morning. Try to not stay up late watching TV and try not to sleep during the day. If you get on a sleep schedule, we guarantee that youll begin to feel better. Try to make the room you sleep in as quiet as possible. Consider ear plugs or a sleep mask. Use your bed only for sleeping. Dont lounge around in your bed. If you spend too much time lounging in bed, watching T.V., drinking coffee, or eating, your body will learn that your bed is NOT a place for sleeping. If you cant sleep after half an hour in bed dont stay in bed trying to sleep. Get up and do some quiet activity. For example, read a book for a half hour and then try going back to bed. If you still cant sleep, get up and do something quiet once again. Try to keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature - not too cold and not too hot. Try to get some exercise every day. Youll feel better and sleep will come much quicker. Try not to exercise or work hard late in the evening. It could make you feel wired. Dont drink anything with caffeine or alcohol for 4 hours before you go to bed. Try not to eat a heavy meal in the evening. Dont eat just before you go to bed. If youre not sleeping at night, avoid naps during the day. Use relaxation techniques. Deep breathing may help you relax at bed time. * Dime the lights 1/2-1 hour before bedtime. Hope this helps. Keep persevering! Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Kayla, You can do this! I am a cold turkey quitter, but I definately say this: it really does not matter how you quit, as long as you are quit. I've heard people before saying exactly what you are saying. But remaining smoke free, however it may be, is the most important! And just like Tutti said, drink tons of water! Get plenty of rest. I loved the idea that when a crave hit me, I brushed my teeth. Of course, I ate candy, slept, cried, read old posts, walked, drank water, ate any kind of chocolate, just about everything...... but I did not smoke. You are doing just fine. You will make it through!! Stay around these boards and read just about everything! You should also learn about your addiction. You may think you know, but believe me, there is always something that you didn't. Most of all take care of yourself, and don't forget your rewards!!! You need to make sure you reward yourself all of the time! 4my2girls My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 377 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,339 Amount Saved: $1232.79 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 9 Mins: 57 Seconds: 38
