Hello Missyfit, Congratulations on your excellent quit, you must be very proud of yourself.Yes i am going to have some counselling and also see my doctor about medication. I have been coming to this site to read all the posts for some weeks now and find them all very inspiring, in fact they have kept me going through a lot of cravings. I do not intend to ever smoke again.I have just not posted any messages before as I have had a computer for a short period of time and am quite a novice at using it, indeed my four year old grandson is better than me.Thanks for your advice. Mary

Hi Grace, Thanks for your very prompt reply and words of comfort, I appreciate them. I already replied to your post but pressed the return box. Anyway it doesn't seem to have worked so I am doing it again in the reply to discussion box so hope this works, expect I will become an expert eventually, will keep trying, nothing ventured nothing gained. In reply to your question about my husband, yes he had a stroke which was smoking related but he also developed prostate cancer which was not diagnosed until it was too late and this is what he died from .Such is life. Hello fellow quitters, This is the first time I have used this to communicate with you all. I am quite new to computers and not really sure how to use all this technology. I have stopped smoking for 45 days now and I am relly not finding it very easy at all in fact life seems very empty indeed. I had previously stopped smoking for 14 months while my husband was ill and he wasn't supposed to smoke, but unfortunately I was so stressed the week prior to his death I returned to smoking and continued to do so for the next14 months. I made a promise to my family to stop smoking again and although I thought I was ready to do so, I think I probably was not as I seemed to revert into a state of depression again, just as I had felt when I lost my husband. I am determined not to smoke again but find it so hard, I have been smoking for 46 years, physically I feel so much better, can walk for miles , but mentally not great at all. Any advice would be welcome. Hello Mary! Like you, a lot of this technology kind of bowls me over... I am so glad you have joined us. I think there is a lot of experience here to help you, and I know there are a lot of us that could benefit from your experience. Congratulations on 45 days! A lot of us are 'regular customers' here. Quitting is hard, and for about the last six months it has (repeatedly) been a way of life for me. I am not alone. I intend to beat this as my health depends on it. Sorry about your loss. Sounds like the last few years have been tough on you. Please post often. You will be in my thoughts and prayers! Mary, Smoking has been part of your life for so long it's normal to feel a little lost. Don't worry, this will pass. Start replacing that old habit for new ones. Keep strong! You're almost at 50 days, time to start planning your reward. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hello Mary, Welcome to the SSC! You're doing just fine with the messages, if you have any difficulties using our program tools be sure to e-mail us through the feedback section located on the bottom right of your screen. First off congratulations on 45 smoke free days! That's a great accomplishment and we hope you'll reward yourself accordingly. Secondly, know that you are not alone in feeling this void. You must replace that old habit with new ones. What are you passionate about? Many quitters experience a period of sadness. Smoking released chemical reactions in your brain that lifted your mood. Your blues can also be attributed to frustration. Quitting is hard, you have to learn to deal with life stressors without having a cigarette to run to. In this aspect, that cigarette must also be replaced with new coping skills. Some members find journalling, taking long walks or learning relaxation techniques helpful. Hope this helps. Please keep us posted on your progress. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hello Mary, You are doing the right thing by coming here. Firstly, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. But know, he is in a better place. Free from the suffering. Secondly, I CONGRATULATE you on 45 successful days!! That is a huge accomplishment! I have some questions for you. 1. Have you completed the tools on your left yet? If not, it is very important. Even at 45 days! 2. Have you rewarded yourself? Doing so on a regular basis is needed, and will help keep you from dwelling on those old memories of happiness while smoking. Now that you have a computer, you can search endlessly. I personally found it helpful to search for smoking addiction. I read everything I could get my hands on to know about my addiction. I also found pictures of what smoking can do. One in perticular stood out for me because it was a young woman (as I). The knowledge helped me tremendously. I also read old posts for days! There is so much information out there, you just need to search for it! Lastly, I would recommend you at least talk to your doctor. Tell him exactly how you feel. I finally did at 7 months quit, and am finally feeling better! I just kept waiting for it to go away, but it just kept getting worse. I am on medication now, and day by day feeling my spirits lifted! I wish you the best with your quit! And promise to come here first if you feel you will lose your quit. Wait for 5 replies.
