Tojo, First of all, how long have you been quit? That's a very important piece of information. Second, how many losenges are you taking a day and how many mgs? Yes, giving up the losenges will be necessery at some point, but in order to help you, we should probably have a little more information. My advice though, is to step down gradually. If you're on the 4mg losenge, step down to the 2mg. Then, cut back the number of losenges you use a day. Substitute one losenge for something else... another hard candy, a piece of gum, a licorice stick, etc... it is very important that at some point, you ARE nicotine free, but the losenges are not as harmful to you as smoking is... but there may be evidence that nicotine, in and of itself without being smoked, can be harmful to us... but no matter what, the evidence is conclusive that nicotine alone is NOT as harmful as smoking. So whatever you have to do not to smoke is good! Just take it one day at a time... one losenge at a time! :) Crave the Quit! Is anyone having a hard time giving up the lozengers? I am so proud that I do not smoke and my body feels better than it has in many years, but I am worried about being on the lozengers and not wanting to give them up.

Tojo, I used the lozenges longer than the box recommends (with doc approval). And cutting back on usae didn't work for me. I think I was just soooo scared of relapsing! But, I will tell you this....once I decided to stop using them....it was so much easier than I thought it would be! A day or two of mild cravings and it was over! and now I have more money for rewards! *lol* You can do it Tojo! Take the plunge! Tojo, from what I have read, nicotine is the only addictive substance in cigarettes. So sure, you have gotten all those other chemicals out, but you are still using the drug. It isn't the smoking that's the addiction...cigarettes are only one method of delivery of the nicotine. You are still delivering the addictive substance to your body. There's a guy in my office who rotates his delivery method...for a few months, it's gum. Then it's patches. Then it's back to smoking. He's only fooling himself. I think you are not wanting to give them up for the same reason it's hard to give up cigarettes...the junkie is still in control. I'm not trying to be harsh. Just trying to answer your question. I do think you ought to step down, and use the same coping mechanisms as you did when you quit smoking. Good luck!
