New quitters for mid June

Hi Denzil, I am on day 2. I know what you mean about the night being worst. Yesterday i was fine all day, then as soon as i finished work, got in the car, I was a wreck, I wanted to smoke and ended up sat in my room, staying away from everyone last night. This morning, I didnt have withdrawals - came to work, its not been too bad. I am so grateful to this site, and the people here.. this time I really think i can do it. So can you!

I love coffee. I drink 1-3 cups every morning. Switch to decaf for now. Coming off the nicotine drug makes you shaky and anxious enough ... you add caffeine to that and oooo boy that is a nasty crave. Denzil, Only you can be the judge of this. The problem with caffeine is that is releases the same chemicals in your brain that a cigarette does. Having said that, it can make your cravings worse and make you more anxious or it could help you get by. NascarFan is right, moderation is key here until you know how your body will react. Worse comes to worse... decaf. Keep persevering, congratulations on 3 days! Danielle _________________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hang in there. Cut down on the coffee or go decaf. You can't quit everything at once. Have some caffiene but just don't overdo it! Denzil, stick with the water!!!! Caffeine is more dangerous at the beginning of a quit (actually all caffeine). BUT don't cut yourself off completely (more withdrawal there!) Easy does it, but make sure you get in 8-10 glasses a day - keep this up. I still have days I do this (only now it's to keep me from eating everything but the kitchen sink). Hang in there, don't be nervous. Do breathing to calm yourself and stave off the cravings. SLowly breathe in, slowly - breathe out. Repeat this as long as it takes. Day 3 a little shakey but hanging in evenings seem to be worst as this was the time I smoked the most. Been to the Doctor and all is fine. I believe the mental thing is a huge obstacle for me. Having tried to quit several times before this. The best so far is 2 months cold turkey. One thing you could probably help with is the wuestion of how much coffee has an effect on the body and mind when we are going through the widthdrawl proccess. Thanks for your support. And looking forward to a final succesful quit.
