Day two is AWFUL!!!

18 years ago 0 1010 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Sierra! As soon as I wanted one, I would race to the bathroom and brushed my teeth and make the brushing last for more than 5 mins. Even if I had to brush them 200 times a day, I refused to pick one up. My teeth are becoming white again!! Sierra, NO SMOKING !!!! SEE Shelly's post for coping and take some of her advice (there's a lot to choose from) GO TAKE A WALK, TAKE A NAP, GET ON THE PHONE WITH A PAL YA LOVE! Keep a journal and write all the confusing thoughts down today and maybe later they will make sense (or maybe not) but that does not matter. You sticking with this and believing in yourself is FIRST over anything else. Getting through the first week is hard, you just have to stay VERY busy. Go to the craft store and buy something to make, get into the library where is nice and quiet and you can't smoke. Find a support book. These are some of the things I did to get through my first weekend. I also made my kids walk with me. Walking without smoking is heaven, you'll see, get on out there! Drink water, Drink water, Drink water. NO SMOKING, IT'S SO WORTH IT!!! HUGS TO YOU! Bump, I'm so glad you got rid of the cigarettes. You're in the roughest part of the quit right now. Try to drink lots of cold water, try mints or chew on straws - I use the little plastic coffee stir sticks myself. Most importantly just take it in little steps and let the minutes take care of the days... just get thru five minutes at a time or whatever it takes. I still have "moments" but for the most part once I got past the first week it became much easier to cope with the effects of the quit. Do this for you and hang on to your quit... it'll get better and stay close to this site. The SSC family will see you thru every step. Hey there Sierra I know exactly whatyou are going through - that first week is SO hard - I too had no focus - and achieved very little - either I couldn't be bothered to do anything or I was too miserable! I thought it was never going to end -and that little voice kept telling me "see - this is how its going to be, do you want to live like this forever?" But, I can now happily say that it isn't going to be like that forever - I still get the voice in my head on and off, sometimes it is more convincing than others, but as each week goes by I realize how much easier it is getting and how much quieter that voice is getting. I didn't smoke much either (usually no more than 7 or 8 a day )it was only when I quit did I realize that I was as addicted as my 40 a day friend! Stick at it - you are doing GREAT! Hey Bump & Sierra, Congrats for making it through day 1! :) What you are feeling will pass - you are almost there. The first 3 days are the hardest, then it eases a little bit, and then before you know it, you are only fighting yourself! Bump, you are playing with fire!!! I am so proud of you that you did not open them and smoke, but let me tell you, ol' Nicodemon is sneaky. He will get into your head and tell you lies!! I would recommend you toss them!! Keep up the good work though! Fight, fight, fight!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 46 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,391 Amount Saved: $150.42 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 17 Mins: 38 Seconds: 10

OMG!!! I love the idea from Duckie - about brushing your teeth!! I wish I had that idea when I started my quit!! Really guys, to make it a little easier on yourselves, please only take it minute by minute, one crave at a time!! If you look too far ahead, you'll just give yourself the need to focus on what you do not have..... instead of what you are accomplishing. Your time will come. Those nasty strong urges will pass. Eventually they will be only a thought, not an real life, smack me in the head, kick me around, draining crave. There are many things to do while you crave. I do love the post from Shelly. There is a lot of ideas. Be creative. Do anything - but do not smoke. Just hang in there. Hell week is just that. You can do this. Breathe and drink water. And remember, one crave at a time!!! Hi Bump, Not that long ago, I had taken my SUV to a car wash - it wasn't that dirty but I wanted all smoke smell gone, so off I went. They steam cleaned all the carpet, wiped everything down, sure smelled fresh!! I came home in my nice, shiny blue 4-runner... I drive it in the driveway and decied that was also the day to clean out the back as there was a dog crate, and some other things back there, and I wanted to donate the dog crate to a rescue organization... One thing at a time, I cleaned out the back. Well, under everything, there was a BRAND NEW PACK OF cigarettes sitting there just staring at me, calling my name in the softest voice - in just a whisper, a very sensual whisper. I just stood there. Neighbors would have wondered what in the world I was doing had anyone seen me just standing there staring into the back of the car with my hands on my hips, scratching my head... Damn, I thought, this is NOT GOOD... I walked around the inside of my garage, thinking, a brand new pack of cigarettes??? WTF is this? A test for sure. I finished cleaning out the back of my SUV. I then walked over to the cigarettes, picked them up and opened the pack. I took them into my kitchen, drenched them w/water and thew them OUTSIDE... Get rid of those smokes, Bump - now. Don't do that to yourself, it makes no sense. I am about as stubborn as anyone I've ever known, and I am dong well with my Quit, and there is NO WAY I would put myself in the position you are putting yourself in, no way. I am not going to tease my Quit, and that's exactly what you are doing. One more thing, dear one, go back and read Shevie's post again - talk about wisdom in black and white. Blessings - My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 46 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,638 Amount Saved: $213.9 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 1 Mins: 38 Seconds: 44

Bump, I am so glad you got rid of the smokes! Please don't buy anymore! You are only fooling yourself! If you allow the enemy into your house, he will get the best of you! Take that from someone who knows all too well! When the urge hits you, brush your teeth, take deep breathes, drink some water, talk to a friend! During my first few days, my manager would grab me at my normal smoke break time and we walked around the block together. I did a lot of talking, most of which didn't make sense since I was in the fog, but she didn't care and she was super supportive!! Get some straws, some gum anything is better than a smoke!! Before you know it, you will feel so much better!! Hang in there Bump! You can do this!!!
