It was a beautiful humid evening in the south. Tuesday has to be better.. Working always takes my mind off smoking.. I can not work and smoke at the same time. Thanks Goodness ps breakingfree.. i will toss the first bucket My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/22/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 439 Amount Saved: $63 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 6 Mins: 12 Seconds: 48

I guess I thought the battle in my mind would go away?? Day 20 & 21 have really been hard. I have been off nic gum for 4 days now.. and I still have cravings. Sunday I drove a child to camp (6hours round trip). First time to drive any distance and not smoke. I was also in convience stores where i usually buy my smokes?? Today, Monday I drop one child off at 8am to camp and went back to sleep. I can't sleep all week. i have to go to work on Tues. Will I always want to smoke? Is that part of this addiction? I would love to have a weekly play book of how i will feel each week and how or what part of my body is healing.. I think i would be motivated. Right now the only things that keeps me from lighting up are my children & the thought of going through the first 2 weeks again. any advice?? or great books?? mon My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/22/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 432 Amount Saved: $63 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 5 Mins: 17 Seconds: 49

Hi Oodlechick, You have only been off the gum for 4 days ... give it a week and I bet you'll be doing great. When I took the patches off ... I had 3-4 pretty bad days ... pretty much like hell week all over. This will pass ... it will. I know that all the chemicals are probably not all out of me yet ... but I am pretty sure most if not all of the nicotine is at this point and I feel great. Yes I think of smoking sometimes still ... but it has only been one month ... ... ... BUT I do not think of ME SMOKING. By the way if you see me smoking ... please throw water on me as the smoke will be from me being on fire and not from me smoking a stoggie. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 954 Amount Saved: $124 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 16 Mins: 13 Seconds: 52

oodlechick, No you will not always want to smoke, you're body is still going through withdrawals because up until now you were still getting some from the gum. Feeling the need to rest is a good thing, it means your body is healing. Your body does most of it's repairing while you sleep. Hang in there, should pass soon. Just remember the tools you used during your first week. Check back soon, Danielle ____________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Your mind is playing catch up! It may be trying to get you to cave in! It will go away, stay strong! Your learning to get past your triggers and for everyone you get through, one less for the future! Hang in! Oodlechick: How long did you smoke for??? Well, think about how long it may take your body to rid itself of the toxins and other chemicals you've been putting in. Coming off nicotine is allegedly worse than heroin withrawal. Be tough, this is going to be a little bumpy ride here on certain days. Nobody knows what days they will be - all you can do is prepare yourself for the worst, and when you crave, it won't be as bad as you're expecting. You will be ready with coping mechanisms! Also, if you have kids, know that childbirth is harder than this (althogh some may argue that fact!) Therefore, if we can do it, you can do it too! Hang in there. oodlechick - I hit the beach in a few days. At day 20 and 21 when I had a crave it was serious, I had to work at it. Now, at almost dat 100 I get a crave, I laugh at myself and it's over in about 2 seconds. It gets better - give yourself time to unlearn a really bad habit you used to have. You're an ex-smoker now. It's tough at times, but that's the reality of it, unless you want to throw it away and go back to smoking...... I didn't think so... Good job! do a google search for quitsmokingbooks. you will come up with several types of reading, books online, books to buy, etc. There is a lot of reading just on the internet if you search in different ways. I promise you that you aren't going to always want to smoke. In the mean time, think positively, practice ways to distract yourself and be sure to keep a reward program in place.
