My panic story and request for suggestions

Hello CAW,

Thank you for sharing, we're glad you've found us as well :)
It's wonderful that you stood up for yourself in getting in to see someone sooner, good for you! In the meantime, have you been able to use any of the resources on this site? Hopefully some of them will be useful for you. Also, in addition to replies you may receive, feel free to browse/search through other postings to discover strategies others have found useful.

I've listed some questions below that you might consider asking yourself the next time you have an anxious thought. They may also be helpful to keep in mind next week, when you are again preparing to face an audience. Please keep us posted with how you are doing and let us know if you come across anything helpful! :)
Questions to ask when experiencing an anxious thought:

1. Is it "true"?
2. How do I know it’s true?
3. Is it 100% true? (remember something that is 75% or 99% true is
    not 100% true)
4. What's the evidence for it being true?
5. What’s the evidence against it being true?
6. Has it ever happened before?
7. What's different now?
8. If it were true, how bad would it really be?
9. What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

Panic leads to all the other stuff

Hi Wrestler,

Thanks for sharing, glad to hear that writing here is helpful! You are right, you definitely CAN get past this!!
Getting an appointment with your Therapist sounds like a great idea, especially since, as you said, some things seem to be 'hanging on' - it's always good to use all the resources we have available to us. I wonder, since the 'venting' here has helped, have you tried journaling? Or stream-of-consciousness writing where you just write down any and all thoughts you may have, without worrying about grammer or sentence structure or anything, just let it flow - then you could follow up on these thoughts by challenging them. eg. are they true? can you know 100% for sure they are true? or 100% for sure that 'this' will happen? etc.

Is there anything you could think of that you could do which might ease some stress or anxiety now regarding having these new pets to care for, and starting back to work after vacation? Goodluck getting back into it, stay positive and feel free to write and let us know how it's going- any time!

My Panic Story

Hi Melissa & Welcome.

As Davit said you have come to the right place and the program does work.  You just need to put in the time and go through each section offered in the under the 'Toolbox'.  Be sure to take it one step at a time and get the most out of these forums by asking questions and posting often.

You will find sincere support and encouragement from the members here!

Hi everyone

Hi peace18,

Good to have you join us!!  You'll find this site very supportive and motivating with members who may have had similar experiences and can offer encouraging words.  Ask lots of questions, search the website and work through the programs under the 'toolbox' section.

What are your personal goals and what would you like to specifically get out of this forum?

Asking for help

Hi hugs4U,

Planning to redecorate or reorganize in the home can get overwhelming very quickly, no matter the size of the project!  Have you tried scaling the room down on paper and using cut-outs of your larger furniture to see how different layouts could function?
That's something that may help.
Your main question though is an important one and I imagine most people have difficulty asking for help at one time or another.
Although, I think most people are willing to help when friends are in need.  Have you reached out to your friends for help with your home project?  If so, what was their reaction?  If not, why do you think you would scare them away?

Members, when have you had to ask someone for help?  Do you find it difficult accepting help when it is offered to you?

thoughts that provoke attacks

Hi peace18,

It's perfectly fine to vent here and I hope by writing out your concerns that you are feeling better this evening.
I agree with Davit to journal to get the thoughts out of your head and then try to identify where you think these thoughts stem from.  They are illogical and not what you truly feel for your son so its understandable that it would cause you anxiety and fear.
I hope each day gets easier - let us know how you are doing.

Negative Core Beliefs VI

Members,

Now that you’ve kept track of your negative core beliefs, try exploring your negative core beliefs about others & the world:

Questions about the World and Other People

1. How would you like other people to be?
2. How would you like other people to act?
3. What would you like to believe about other people?
4. How would you be acting differently if you believed that about other people?
5. What would you like the world to be like?
6. How would you be acting differently if you believed that about the world?

Benefits of a strong support network

Hi peace,
I'm very happy to hear of the support you have with family members.  Offering a gym membership was a very thoughtful gift from your aunt.    Physical exercise does wonders for the mind & body.  I hope you enjoy the yoga!  Continue to post with us and share your updates.

Eleveno,
Requesting help from your therapist is a great idea.  It sounds like you have built a great rapport with her.

How to deal with stress?

Feeling a little anxious? Stress and anxiety go hand and hand. Here are a few tips to help keep tension to a minimum.

·

·

  • Set priorities for yourself. Organize your time so that you do the things that are most important to you first. Don’t get too hung up on the smaller, less important things.

·

  • Recognize things that cause you the most stress. Afterward, look for ways to get around them. For example, if you find meeting with someone in person stressful, see if you can make a phone call instead.

  • Don't try to do everything yourself. Ask your friends and family members to help with some of your responsibilities.

  • Talk about your feelings with family and friends. Be sure you take time for social activities and exercise. You'll feel more relaxed, energized and not as stressed.
