hello having alot of trouble

Hi Nikki,   Try drinking a relaxing tea such as chamomile or valerian about an hour before bed. This should help to calm you down so that you can fall asleep and hopefully stay asleep.   It is understandable that having no medical insurance adds to your anxiety. Please check with government offices or even by calling a doctor in your area how you can access free health care. There must be options for low income individuals in your city. I hope you find a clinic in your area.   Keep working through the program and post as often as you need to. As you said, posting on this site also helps a lot with your anxiety.     Faryal, Health Educator

Challenge for everyone?

Hi Jhori82,   Way to go on sending out the "positivity" with a smile..............I agree that sometimes a simple smile can be challenging especially when mentally or emotionally we feel tired, drained, overwhelmed or even apathetic.   There is a saying that a smile is considered an act of kindness.   Glad to see that you felt like "yourself". For me personally, patience is a challenge..... my task to work on!   Members.........please share any experiences/challenges since Sunday.     Faryal, Health Educator

De-Stressing. Everywhere!

Very interesting and thought-provoking opinions and ideas!   Equally interesting is how some of you recognize that the deeper questions about our existence are somehow related to the anxiety and panic.   Great thread!     Faryal, Health Educator

controversial / partners

Hi Sue f,   Welcome back and thank you for stimulating this discussion.   Your thoughts reflect an important factor which is that sometimes individuals who are in our lives in significant ways may not necessarily support or contribute to our happiness or sense of self-worth. As you said, it is amazing to see how much inner strength we do have. But making tough decisions is scary.........even if it is for our own happiness.   Members...........please add your thoughts and experiences.     Faryal, Health Educator

Sugar Substitutes

Sugar Substitutes

Like Pooh Bear and his honey jar, sweet treats are the comfort food of choice for many of us. Most of us (since childhood) unconsciously associate sugar with emotions of love, reward and pleasure.

Sugar after all, is a carbohydrate which fuels our brain and muscles. Eating sugar raises blood sugar levels and insulin……..but the quick rise results in a quick crash causing the body to crave more. This is how sugar addiction begins.

Sugar in high amounts has been linked to poor glucose regulation, poor immune function, weight gain issues, digestive complaints and even poor brain function (attention deficit, poor memory, hyperactivity).

With the modern era and advanced food-processing techniques, several sugar substitutes have been created ranging from artificial sweeteners like saccharin, aspartame (Equal, Nutrasweet, Splenda).  These products have fuelled controversy on the health risks and adverse effects of artificial sweeteners. This is due to the chemicals in these sweeteners that have known hazards.  But some evidence indicates they are appropriate for diabetics or those trying to lose weight.

Members………..what are your thoughts on sugar and artificial sweeteners?
Consider using substitutes and alternatives to white sugar such as honey, molasses, brown sugar and a new herbal product called Stevia. These are natural sources that prevent unknown health hazards when used in moderation.

How to explain to kids?

Hi Imissl,   First of all I would like to commend you on your sensitivity and wisdom where your kids are concerned. Your regard for their mental and emotional wellbeing is touching and as difficult as the circumstances may be, I am certain that your children know and feel that you love them dearly.   I also think it is interesting and insightful of you to think that your son's inquisitive nature is like exposure therapy for you. What a great perspective to have...........most people would just express their annoyance at this.   Are you taking any meds or supplements at the moment? If not, it may be something to consider to help you deal with the anxiety as you are working through the program. Take a B-Complex as well which helps to modulate stress and mood swings.........please consult with your health provider first though.   We are all here for you. Posting often may also help with the intensity of your anxiety.   Members, please share your experiences in addressing young kids about your health concerns.     Faryal, Health Educator

Overcoming doubt

Hi Jhori82,   Your question is so deep and real and fascinating.   I believe every single person experiences self-doubt in some way or another. On a tiny scale, this may help us to always strive to enhance ourselves. On the other end of the spectrum, as CrabbyRoad says, it transforms into self-criticism.   Members, lets read your thoughts on this.     Faryal, Health Educator
