Hi Andy,   Glad to hear you were able to block the panic attack with your self-talk............hopefully you can practice this as needed and eventually control them.   Thank you for keeping us posted.     Faryal, Health Educator

Thanks for the welcomes, makes me feel good to know that I am not the only one out there dealing with the same things.

I actually diffused an attack today, I felt it coming on for no reason and my mind just sort of told my body "no" and the panic went away before i had the chance to let it get the better of me. I know that seems almost too intuitive, but it never occured to me before now to just have my mind tell me body to stop being such a jerk haha :)

So overall, today was a pretty good day.

Hello All,

I have returned to the Panic Center after being away for a few years. We moved, and have made some slight improvement, which is making me crave to be able to do more. So I'm trying to work with my thoughts with this program, and expand my boundaries further.

Background :almost 18 yrs with Panic Disorder, early years I maintained and kept my job, gradually driving diminished, to haven't drove for more than a 1/4 mile by myself in 8 years. Very agoraphobic, hard to even go to grocery in town, out of town is almost impossible, and must have husband when I do, still doesn't take away the fear, but makes it better.

Hi AndyJ (and Nikki too)

I think this program can be a tremendous help to you both - especially with the physical symptoms.  They are awful aren't they?? But they are only symptoms and nothing is going to happen to you.  They are physical reactions to your emotional feelings... Chest pain because you are breathing shallow or tense..... so many reasons that really make sense - you just need to work through the panic.  It does become easier.

I personally bought a workbook to help me work through them when they were at their worst...many years ago...  Being able to quickly reference something when the symptoms were at their worse was very helpful... This program works the same.  You can print off the weeks and work through them...excellent tools on the road to being well.

Challenging your thoughts will be very helpful... I used to change tasks...and then "check back" with myself 5 minutes later...and then again 5 minutes later...and soon 30 minutes had passed and I did not die... or whatever i was worried about and soon it got easier...and less intense. Sometimes I would lie on the floor and do relaxation excercises starting at my toes and working my way up... It gave me something to focus on and eventually everything slowed back down.
Fear is the key here.... it fuels everything...   The more fuel you give it ...the stronger it gets...

You can do this though!! You've already taken the biggest step by posting and reaching out... so congratulations to you!!  You've both shown great courage...and in the midst of something that can be very scary.

Keep posting.

Hey, just figured i'd post in here to introduce myself.

I'm a 26 year old male, have been having panic attacks for about 8 months now. Everything started when I began having chest pain (which seems to be caused by acid reflux related esophagus spams) which has since spiralled into a never-ending list of physical complaints from muscle pain and burning, shortness of breath, chest pains, stomach issues, headaches, extreme tiredness all the time, sleeping way more than normal, irritability, and just a general feeling of fear that something is wrong with my health. Have been to my doctor and emergency rooms on a regular basis since it all started and have had 2 xrays, 2 ekgs, an ultrrasound, blood tests, upper gi, physical exams, all of which come back normal.

I've been reading the other posts around here, and it's good to see that other people have the same problems. Kind of reassuring, although as many of you may also feel, that alone doesn't ease my worries. I'm hoping that the program will be helpful in stopping the attacks as well as relieving some anxiety, because its getting really annoying. The worst part is just how nobody really gets what I'm going through, it's very tiring hearing "it's all in your head" when the physical symptoms are real :/
