Chantix folks - I just started Chantix 3 days ago (I'm quiting in 4 days). I step up my dosage tomorrrow to 1 mg a day. I haven't really noticed a dry mouth, but the smokes are sarting to taste real bad. Am I supposed to be cutting back during this last week? Even though they're tasting bad, I'm still smoking them...any advice? I'm getting stressed about my quit date. 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Quit Date - 12/26/06

Hi Everyone - Nice to meet all of you. I've been smoking for over 30 years and like most of you, tried everything to quit. I've been battling high blood pressure, high cholesterol and recently had a pretty bad bout with pneumonia out of nowhere. My doctor told me about Chantix which has just been approved by the FDA for smoking cessation. It finally hit me when my MD told me 'quit or die'... I set my quit date and have already began taking the medication. I'm not sure what I feel like after taking the meds for three days now (you start the meds 7 days before your quit date), but it's starting to make my cigs taste real bad. I'll keep you all posted. Happy holidays and wish me luck! 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Need someone to help me though this

CD - Steven Tyler once wrote 'you have to lose to learn how to win' (I'll let you guess the song). I'm a 30+ year smoker giving it another try. I think I've quit every year since I started...I failed so many times, I think I finally figured out how to do it right. I quit this Tuesday, for good this time. I'm keeping a positive attitide and keeping in touch with all of these great folks here. Smoking is disgusting and it's killng you. That's all I keep telling myself. I know how to quit this time. You'll see different folks here used different ways to quit...there's no magic potion (if you find one, let us know). If I can do it, anyone can. Good luck and stay on the board with us! Happy holidays! 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

You can do it. Quit thinking about it! Find something to do...it'll pass. I getting ready to start my 1st week and although I know all of this is coming up, I'm still not ready for it. Just remember, SMOKING IS DISGUSTING AND IT'S KILLING YOU! Good luck! 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hello again everyone...

Hi Pat - Good luck quitting this time. This is what I've finally realized; other than a few close friends and family members, no one cares if you smoke or not. There is no ticker-tape parade for you when you quit. My family now just roll their eyes because 'I'm going to quit...again' (big deal). So don't look for a pat on the back from too many people. You have to want it - JUST FOR YOU. Smoking is disgusting and it's killing you, that's all you need to keep telling yourself. Good luck and happy holiday! 2tone

Hi all - This Chantix stuff is amazing...I'm on it for 5 days now, my quit date is not for another 2 days and I really don't want a smoke, nor do I crave one. If I do smoke one, it tastes bad and I throw it away. I'm not really thinking too much about it, either. Maybe I'm giving the drug more credit than it deserves...you have to want to quit. My message to all those struggling with other means is: talk to your MD about Chantix (no I'm not a salesman for the product). It just works... 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hello again everyone...

Pat - Maybe I should rephrase - don't look for too many pats on the back from others (who don't understand what you're going through). I for one, applaude you! My hat is off to you and I wish you the best of luck from the bottom of my heart. I know what you're going through (we all do). It's funny because quitting has become one big game to me. I've quit so many times I quit counting. It's hard, you feel like crap, you have a few good days...on and on. I now know that putting them down for the long run is the challenge. It never ends and it's a lifelong commitment...one that I have not been unable to make. It's almost like I'm getting used to the torture of quitting. In my mind, quitting was always temporary - something I did for awhile. That's the corner I can't turn. Staying quit forever. Good luck to you, Pat. And wish me luck (this time). 2tone

Coping mechanisms

I pick up my guitar. It's funny but when I was a smoker, I used to take smoke breaks which cut down on my practice time. If I don't think about smoking, I can practice until my fingers bleed! All of your coping techniques sound good for home, but what about work? There's not mant folks who can practice their hobbies in the office...what does everyone do at work? 2tone

Day One - Hell Week

Hi everyone - I'm starting my first week today mad as hell. Mad at myself for letting this go on this long. I will never light another smoke for the rest of my life, but what took me so long? As I sit here on my first day drinking coffee, I have no cravings, no withdrawl symptoms (yet). I feel good, but ticked off. I'm going to try to keep a journal of the weeks to come, but I think that they are going to be mostly uneventful. I'm not anticipating wild cravings or withdrawls. I know that smoking is not an option for me. I'm done. I'm now an ex-smoker. Smoking is disgusting and it WAS killing me! 2tone :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Question - Any Writers out there?

I'm a musician and you should see me try to play when I quit smoking...even the simpliest of motor skills are hampered when you're quitting. You're just not thinking straight right now. Smoking didn't make you a better writer just like it didn't make me a better guitar player. It all comes back to you, trust me. Good luck! 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0
