Cd, Not going to ask "why wait". Its up to you. You have to own your own quit. I will definitely help you through this and so many others here are willing too. Stay strong, read lots of posts and prepare yourself and get your tools ready. Congrats on making the decision and even setting the day. Huge step! to begin, you must want to quit...worse than you want to smoke. If you feel that you "can't" take the first few days????? then talk to a doctor or pharmacist about using nicotine replacement therapy (these are "weaning" tools when used as directed and have helped lots of quitters)...a doctor could also prescribe one of a couple of medications that might help you through the roughest times. Check out the tools to the left...especially the workbook. also do a search for "guide to the first 72 hours"....that will give you an idea what to expect as you rid your body of nicotine. and it's always best to pack a suitcase and gas up the car before taking a journey....preparing to quit is no different....and it CAN make the difference between success and failure.....good luck...this site is a good thing to keep close to also! cd and fern.....have you considered that quitting isn't a "sentence"...it's you, "choosing" to not light up. Saying to yourself, "Oh God, I can never, ever again smoke will put the best intentioned quitter into a panic." Don't go down the "forever" road at this point.....try to stay in the present.....just "choosing" to not light up. ( first off, you destroy all your smoking materials..ALL of them!) Plan small actions that will help to distract and delay you from going for smokes when the urges come. Just keep "putting off". When you haven't smoked for half or a whole day..??....well reward yourself in some small way. Keep these little treats planned ahead too. they will help to keep you focused on choosing NO to the smokes. I was a 2pk and over a day smoker....I was one of those people who would panic when I was home with only 5 smokes and the thought of the rest of the day ahead of me. I would rip someone's face off to get a smoke....I would be wild when faced for a period of even a few hours without a smoke. Quitting for me was NOT easy.....but you know, I got mad.....mad that this stupid addiction was literally "running" my life....and I used that anger to maintain the control and keep saying "no".......you can do this too. I promise.....NO ONE has died from quitting.....not ONE of us! Lay some plans, grab hold on here and get it done.....you CAN win Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1799 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 71,993 Amount Saved: $10254.3 Life Gained: Days: 234 Hrs: 18 Mins: 16 Seconds: 19
