Yeah, guess it does make sense. Glad to hear it will fade, I live in California land of no smoking LOL, even the bus stop signs have no smoking within 20 feet on them. After that moment of wanting a smoke, was a thought "hey, you don't smoke anymore ..... oh yeah .... right" then going about my business, the whole thing took less than 5 seconds. Remembering back when they passed the no smoking restaurants law, me and my friends spent the evening sitting in our local hang out smoking till midnight, when they passed no smoking bars, we did the same. Now in most places it's no smoking inside, no smoking within 20 feet of any entryway, no smoking near or on the grounds of any school, hospital, park, beach, bus stop, train stop ect ect ect. basically no smoking anywhere but home or your car, and they are try to pass a law against smoking while driving. They already have the distracted driver law, which is really at the cops discretion. *Lights soapbox on fire* The irony of the situation is what struck me.
I live in Southern California, USA, and I've touched on this topic a few times recently. No smoking in any public building (private business included), no smoking 20 feet from entry ways, no smoking 20 feet from any outdoor eating area, parks, beaches, bus stops, some cities it is only legal to smoke at home or in your car (unless you have kids in the car, then that's illegal too), though most clubs and bars have a smoking patio even those are going away in some places. There is also a new law against "distracted driving" which is at the officers discretion (smoking, eating, drinking, talking..... ). Effectively they have been outlawing smoking by taking away places to smoke. Do I think that is influencing peoples choices on quitting, of course they are effectively instating cessation by attrition. My inner college kid says as long as smoking is legal (as in not an illegal controlled substance), they are infringing on the rights of those people, yes I realize non-smokers have rights too, but I still find it wrong. When we allow the gov to step in and regulate our actions in that light, they start over stepping their bounds, and making passing moral laws, restricting life further and further. I can debate rights and liberties till the cows come home, not trying to stir the pot, just food for thought.
I started my quit on a challenge (well I took it as one anyhow), seems only fitting I should accept another ;) I will not smoke till next Feb 29th Eyja.
It comes down to what works for you. I started with my mental addiction using patches, I needed to retrain my hands and my mouth - so far so good. In all honesty, I kinda laughed at parts of the program, and I picked and choose what worked for me. What really made the difference is the people here, no there is no chat program, but they are pretty quick on the responses just the same. I quit because I got hit with Bronchitis in January, last year it was pneumonia, I was handed an inhaler to use everyday, I'm 33 not good. I smoked for 17 yrs, and only ever tried to quit once - I've been quit for 57 days. If what your doing is working for you fantastic. Look forward to seeing you in the boards
