Hubby had the day off work today and he has been particularly irritable. I just went downstairs to the basement looking for him after I took a nap and he was sitting down there smoking.
I said "Your smoking??" and he just looked at me. I want to be supportive but I feel quite angry that he didn't try to talk to me first. I guess I'm disappointed too.
What should I do??
I don't want to yell or make him feel horrible but I am quite peeved. He's still downstairs now...

OK I didn't get angry I asked him why and we talked and hes recommitted to his quit. He felt terrible, but told him I was proud of him either way. He's doin fine now... bless him.
I guess my initial reacyion was shock... I get that this is my quit and that is his quit.
We are all back on track now..,
Thanks for the advice.

Amazingly well written post.
Quitting is teaching me that I have to deal with all these emotions. I have no choice. Well I do but that would involve lighting a cancer stick which ain't EVER happening again. So all thats left is me and my anxiety. I find that I am quite enjoying it though. Everything is clearer to me now that the fog of smoke has gone. Everything is making more sense.
Long may you be a non-smoking emotion-feeling hero.

Hey Ann!
I quit for six months before with Nicorette Gum. I stepped down and then stopped using over about a two month period. I started chewing regular gum, and as time went on I'd forget to chew a piece unless I had a long bad craving. I guess it depends on how you are feeling?
Remember the most important thing is NOPE!! So if you need to keep using the gum for the time being go ahead and use it.
Alcohol was my downfall the time I quit with gum... and every other time. I'm using the patch this time... and chewing sugar free gum! Does the gum still taste gross? :)
Anyway good job on your quit so far :)
